House GOP leader: Senate should change its rules to pass DHS funding
The Hill ^ | 3/1/2015 | By Jesse Byrnes

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said on Sunday that the Senate should change its rules in order to pass a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

"I think they should change the rule," McCarthy said on NBC's "Meet the Press," suggesting the Senate invoke the so-called "nuclear option" to allow spending bills to only require a simple majority to advance instead of 60 votes.

I can’t stand Kevin McCarthy but on this one he is right.

Mitch should have changed the rules a couple of weeks ago and passed the House Bill on the nuclear option and plopped It on OMuslim’s desk and let him veto it. Then Barry can splain to everybody why he shut down the DHS over illegal activity. The GOP is so stupid its hard to believe.

Not accurate

McConnell has let the Reid rule change intact.

What he has NOT DONE is to FOLLOW TROUGH ON HIS PROMISE to end filibuster on Legislation after Reid went nuclear.

Figures we don’t remember.

Let that faggot moslem homosexual scumbag USURPER in the WH VETO DHS funding.

McConnell needs to go.

Idiotic idea. Most of the time, it is better for minority to be able to STOP the government from taking action.

And in this case, Obama would simply veto, so it would be pointless.

We were already going to blame them for failing to vote, until McConnell gave them a vote and made it the republicans in the house that were holding things up.

Why does anybody think that the media, which was already blaming republicans when the democrats refused to even VOTE on the DHS bill, would EVER blame Obama for anything?

The likely story would be he’d immediately veto, explaining how he respected the traditions of the senate, and the media would decry the republican nuclear option on normal legislation (which nobody ever made an argument to end before). All the media would explain how the republicans really needed to go back and “do the right thing”.

No, if we were ever going to win, we needed the senate to stand firm on the original bill. Once the gave up, it gave the media the story they needed.

Where we are now is that Pelosi can make a privileged motion on Monday calling back the Senate bill. Boehner can’t block it, and all the democrats need are a few republicans who support the amnesty program to vote with them, and that will be that.

If we are ever going to nuke the filibuster entirely, it would have to be after 2016, if we win the presidency. We declare scorched earth to correct the horrors of the last 8 years, and we use simple majorities to fix everything the best we can.

Not ever going to happen of course. But you save your nuclear weapon for the day it will actually get you something real.

It's amazing how Republicans surrender from both the minority and majority. It's even more amazing that they surrender faster from the majority.

Whoa, that's a mouthful... - we need to update all that into the urban dictionary with just simply "Obama".

Doesn’t McConnell need a majority to change Senate “Rules”?

So, if you start with 54 “Republicans” and then McCain, Graham, Hatch and Flake vote to KEEP the filibuster, haven’t those four sold out our Constitution?

Let’s work on Primaries! And Recalls!

You CANNOT win a battle, playing by rules which the other side refuses to follow or abide by!

Simply stated, we MUST stop playing nice, when the other team is playing dirty. And right now, everything the Dems are doing is dirty, Dirty, DIRTY!

Pass it, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY, and make the President (and Dems) OWN the financial impasse and the illegal amnesty! PERIOD!

At the very least, it puts Obama on record as supporting Illegals instead of DHS without being protected by Reid and Pelosi. When the employees don't get a paycheck for a month or so, they'll turn to Obama to just back down from his illegal immigration EO.
If McCave McConnell doesn't like the Nuclear Option then he can certainly change the rules to make the Democrats work for the filibuster. Continual talking about the issue with no breaks. Max. 5 seconds between words.

I don’t know what the Rules are .. so I can’t answer your question.

But .. the left seemed to be able to run rough-shod over the repubs for all these years .. and I don’t recall anybody on the repub side questioning whether or not they could change the rules.
