Seems to be a lot of officers relieved of command lately - the last couple of years. More than I recall in recent memory, at least.

Just like the Red Army 1938, all that's missing is the the one-way ticket to The Lubyanka.

"Seems to be a lot of officers relieved of command lately - the last couple of years. More than I recall in recent memory, at least".

It not at all unusual, we just hear about it more in the internet age.

There are a lot of guys out there who have been the opportunity to command a warship of the USN.

Few men are good enough. Some are canned, some limp along.

Few meet the enormous demand, fewer still excel.

Commanding a warship at sea 8,000 miles from any familiar civilization, while keeping the ship and crew battle ready, is a rare capability.
