Pearl Harbor sub commander is relieved of duties

The commanding officer of the Pearl Harbor-based Virginia-class fast attack submarine USS Mississippi was relieved of his duties Friday due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command, the Navy said.

Cmdr. Tory Swanson was removed from his position by Capt. Harry Ganteaume, commander of Submarine Squadron 1. A command investigation into the circumstances leading to Swanson's relief is ongoing, the Navy said.

Cmdr. Brook DeWalt, a spokesman for the U.S. Pacific Fleet submarine force, said he was limited in what he could say, but that the removal "was a matter of professional nature — not a personal transgression or anything like that. It's issues revolving around operational decision-making."

Swanson, who had served aboard Mississippi since April 2013, has been administratively reassigned to the staff of the Pacific Fleet submarine force, the Navy said.

All in all, I just don’t see how Obama would set his sights on a lowly submarine captain.

It was my privilege to serve. Great experiences, great people. Got my bachelors and masters degrees, without incurring a dime of student debt, nor did my parents need to pay anything towards college. Was able to live in Germany four years, learned what leadership was all about.

Most important lesson? This is the greatest nation ever known. No country has ever done more to right its wrongs, while coming to the aid of millions of people throughout the world.

Very interesting, r. I’d sure like to track this down.

I went aboard a diesel sub once (cant remember the name), when I used to haunt the docks in Miami when I was a kid.

Went on a sub-tender too; USS Howard W Gilmore.

Great adventures, those.

Thanks for your service.

Do you think this could be legit? A friend shared this via email:

A portion of the article linked to below:

That seems to be the case with Capt. James Fanell, a senior Navy intelligence leader who was relieved from his position as the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s director of intelligence and information operations because he made public information about China that Obama didn’t want you to hear.

His comments, now being labeled “provocative,” revealed that after a recent Chinese amphibious exercise, naval intelligence officials assessed that China’s strategy was to be able to launch a “short, sharp war,” with Japan.

Fannell said the following about Chinese naval intentions: “(We believe) the (People’s Liberation Army) has been given the new task to be able to conduct a short, sharp war to destroy Japanese forces in the East China Sea following with what can only be expected (as) a seizure of the Senkakus or even southern Ryukyu (islands).”

Those actions could potentially lead to something along the lines of World War III.

And if anything happened while out to sea for six months his head would roll and he
would end up in the brig for life.

Yea, sometimes you have to weigh the odds, and his were not good.
Let them place a butch dike in there and let her go to prison.

Or, just get Women off our Ships and solve the whole damn problem Obama created!!

Military is being salted with Traitors.. since Clinton..
It is not what it once WAS...

During the Clinton regime I watched terrible officers, many with bad paper in their jackets, get promoted while many very smart officers who were great leaders were passed over and had to retire. There are several of the bad ones now holding flag rank.

I have very little confidence in much of our military leadership knowing many of the people in the top ranks.

Don’t they still have LDOs? I thought prior enlisted were LDOs.

There are different paths to commissioning. LDOs are E-6 and above who are commissioned straight from enlisted duty. Junior sailors have programs like Seaman to Admiral where they can go to college and then be commissioned as unrestricted line.
