Being elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives by his Republican peers should have been the happy culmination of a long congressional career for Rep. John Boehner. Telling his story about rising from modest circumstances the second of 12 children in a working-class Ohio family to become a legislative leader and second in order of presidential succession frequently brought tears to his eyes.
But so far, at least, its largely been a slog through political swamps. Hes had to fight off not only Democrats but tea partiers and other members of his own party including the 25 Republican House members who voted for somebody else as Speaker last month in what the Washington Post reported as the largest rebellion by a party against its incumbent speaker since the Civil War.
Late Friday night literally at the 11th hour Mr. Boehner faced another wall of opposition, into which he crashed.

I sincerely hope he is forced to resign...He is not doing the job we expected him to do..actually none of them are...
Once they get to Congress, they just follow the leader and to hell with the folks who put them there...
The out of control elite want it both ways. They want to win but they don't want to support the views of those who elect them. If that isn't already a crisis, I don't know what is.
More to the point—Can the GOP survive if they go against the will of the people who put them in the majority of both chambers of Congress last NOV?
Well Cotton, if we do we can thank you for continuing to bring them to our notice. Great job FRiend.
I understand that political survival involves compromise and tit for tat and that getting things done involves running up chits that one day have to be repaid. BUT, would a Speaker who claims to be a patriot facilitate the opposition’s breathing space as this John Boehner has done? Ney. This John Boehner regularly drops the bar of Ivory Soap and enjoys the reaction it gets just a little too much. Methinks he’s got a ‘wide stance’ problem akin to that Wyoming guy. What was his name? Come and gone?
Boner is dun, dun, dun
The Texas House Republican delegation has been a major disappointment so far. Boehner is safe.
What’s happening in our country is a spiritual warfare. The ppl voted for a majority congress and what did they do? Voted for two men to lead them who have no inner conviction or spiritual experience to bring them through the battles.
We know who the men are who seem to have this ability.
Congress has to change leadership before it’s too late. If it isn’t already.
The battle isn’t even being faught yet.
The majority of the GOP Senators and Congressmen are owned by The Cheap Labor Express.
They want the amnesty, but are trying to look like they are helpless to stop it. This way they can deflect the blame.
It’s treason.
Good question.
That’s the thing about lack of principles. It just comes around to bite you in the azz. I have never suffered injury I could not recover from by standing up for my principles. Never.
These spineless corrupt quislings have done exactly nothing since the day they took office in Jan.
I’m don’t know if Boner will survive but I do know that he shouldn’t.
“Cheetos John” is all about politics and not about first principals. He is as relevant as the Whig Party
