The Next Great Migration - Why don’t more black Americans move abroad?
NY Times ^ | Feb. 27, 2015 | THOMAS CHATTERTON WILLIAMS

PARIS — AT dinner last summer with my brother-in-law, a grandson of Jews who fled Algeria for France, the conversation turned to the rash of anti-Semitic incidents plaguing the country. At such times, the question inevitably arises in the minds of many Jews: “Where could we go?” He mentioned Tel Aviv, London and New York, but the location mattered less than the reassurance that departure remained an option. He’s not alone in this thinking: 7,000 French Jews emigrated in 2014.

Over the past year, as I watched with outrage at the dizzying spate of unpunished extrajudicial police killings of black men and women across America, I’ve wondered why more black Americans don’t think similarly. Why shouldn’t more of us weigh expatriation, even if only temporary, as a viable means of securing those lofty yet elusive ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

Blacks leaving America in search of equality is not new. The practice dates from at least antebellum Louisiana, when free mulattoes in New Orleans sent their children to France to live in accordance with their means and not their color. It continued after World War II, when a number of black G.I.s, artists and jazzmen shared Richard Wright’s sentiment that there is “more freedom in one square block of Paris than there is in the entire United States of America.”

Today, that might sound hyperbolic — enormous gains have been made in America at every social level, and many blacks live as well as one can reasonably hope to anywhere. Yet we are consistently reminded of how tenuous this progress can be; how possible it still is to be humiliated on the front porch or cut down in Walmart by an officer who will never be held to account.

Because there is less prejudice in the United States than anywhere else in the world - absolutely including Europe.

“the dizzying spate of unpunished extrajudicial police killings of black men and women across America”

Yeah, just dizzying.

How about the dizzying spate of black on black murders in our Democrat controlled Gotham utopias. Their clocks are being stopped by the bushel.

Dude! Are you OK?
You didn’t mention bringing jobs back to America.
Perhaps you should see a doctor...

I was up at the ATM to conduct some business, and found myself to be the only white person along with 4 or 5 black people waiting for the ATM.

One of the black people engaged me in conversation, which was a bit unusual, and then I noticed that he had an accent, which sounded vaguely to me like somebody from the Caribbean.

I asked him where he was from, and he told me he was from Cameroon, and we continued talking for several minutes after that, until we concluded our business.

Then it dawned on me... this highly articulate genuine African chose me for a conversation, not the American blacks he was in line with.

Had a flaming liberal tell me the same thing. Said the bigotry in Europe would make your head spin.

Sounds like he exaggerates a lot. African-Americans who are in serious danger of being shot and those who have the resources to pick up and leave the country and prosper abroad aren't likely to be the same people.

Perhaps the reasons why Black Americans don't like to emigrate aren't so very different from the reasons White Americans don't immigrate. That may change, maybe sooner for Whites than for Blacks.

As someone who has lived in 11 different countries and traveled to more than 70, there is no country on earth that offers a black man the opportunity to succeed and has less prejudice when it comes to race.

I see great promise in black migration to Europe and Africa. We should start a program to help blacks from broken homes and economically depressed neighborhoods move to a new beginning in sunny France, or Kenya, or Somali. It might work as an alternative to criminal punishment for prison bound black men.

If we could only get them to take an extra Muslim or two with them.

You know I read this article which was a bunch of naive bravo sierra to be honest and why would I leave the state of New Hampshire where I have a good job, plan on going back to college, and though 95 % white, I have never been mistreated as of yet to go to a progressive, left hellhole that Europe is becoming in the near future or worse Africa. I am not going to lie, the US had and still has flaws, and back then yes life was hard for some folks and yeah some individual bigots, I know for I heard the stories growing up, but today there is still a lot of beauty in this nation, opportunities and people who are welcoming, trick is you may have to move and get a better job, and though not PC but assimilate to the culture around you, sorry I think this article is crap.

The solution for the permanently aggrieved minority should be moving out to the country of their choice. There are a lot of Americans who would help pay to deport blacks to Europe or Africa on the sole provision that neither they or their children could ever return to the U.S. People wanting to leave America for another country (under these conditions) should forfeit their citizenship — no dual citizenship. If the immigrant does not like his/her new country, it's too bad, but they cannot come back to America.

for the sae reason they are mostly societal failures. Many lack any initiative or self motivation. Both are needed to gather the gumption to move

It should be remembered that the black population was enslaved. the reason they were enslaved is the same reason they won’t move to Europe
