In the anti-fracking film Gasland, producer Josh Fox proclaims that the process of extracting previously inaccessible oil and gas from shale pollutes water supplies, increases the incidence of cancer and leads to higher levels of seismic activity, despite ample contrary evidence. This self-proclaimed environmental watchdog and anti-fracking crusader has led extensive efforts to end or prevent fracking throughout the United States by obfuscating the truth and stopping communities from reaping the benefits of America's shale boom. Josh Fox and others like him are uninterested in looking for improvements in fracking technology and safety. Instead they seek to shut down shale exploration and other fossil fuel extraction altogether.
In his recent book, The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels, Alex Epstein challenges the ethical bias of environmentalists who oppose fossil-fuel use and deftly argues that fossil fuels have vastly improved the planet and the lives of its human inhabitants. He contends that a human-centric moral value that supports the well-being and prosperity of human beings ranks on a higher ethical plain than the utopian, environmentalist ideal of a "wild" earth or environment absent little or no human impact. Epstein's moral position is that man should serve human beings, not nature, and that it is wrong-headed and misguided to view man as a destructive force meriting punishment for cultivating the environment for his benefit. With fossil fuels, limiting their use creates reduced economic prosperity, higher levels of human starvation, lower life expectancies and higher rates of infant mortality.
To environmentalists, any transformation of nature is inherently bad and man bears primary responsibility for negatively impacting nature in the quest to develop and utilize resources. Epstein counters this view with the assertion that mans very

It is just one of the many gifts God gave man to make it on this earth.
“Environmental” activists want us all to live primitive, dirty, and disease-ridden lifestyles. Yet the environment is far cleaner in developed countries, where people have the desire and the means to keep the environment clean. You don’t find much concern over the environment where people are struggling to survive, where the fate of that old-growth forest is inconsequential compared to the need to find food for today.
Gas land has been proven to be total Bull Merd. Should not even be discussed except for the lies it has perpetuated. And yes, I have a summer home in the Fracking zone and we all all alright thank you. You should see the economic calamity where I live the rest of the time, Southern Tier of NY where the growth industries are unemployment and heroin addiction. Thanks Prince Andrew.
Abiotic? My daughter is studying to be a geologist and I asked her what is said about this. She said they haven’t mentioned it. That they only study WHERE and HOW to find oil and gas, not where it comes from. Seems like a no-brainer to me that you would learn that FIRST.
Big Oil did more to save the whales than all the Environmental Groups put together. Until we found oil, the primary source of oil in the world was from whale blubber.
And yet these same Environmental activists drive cars and fly a round in airplanes. Their version of saving the planet is bikes for you, Gulfstream 5 for me!

Josh Fox’s claim stating that the Society of Petroleum Engineers says that 35% of the world’s oil and gas wells are leaking is a total and complete fabrication.
Fact Checking Josh Fox/Gasland #2; Oil/Gas Industry NOT Exempt from Clean Air/Clean Water Acts

Contrary to Gasland claims, there is no exemption contained in the Federal Clean Water Act that is a categorical exemption of the oil and gas industry from jurisdiction under the Act for hydraulic fracturing process wastewater.....another Gasland falsehood.
Fact Checking Josh Fox/Gasland #3-EPA Enforcement Case Shows Gas Industry Bust Under Clean Water Act
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/07/18/1224787/-Fact-Checking-Josh-Fox-Gasland-3-EPA-Enforcement-Case-Shows-Gas-Industry-Bust-Under-Clean-Water-Act
The enforcement action by EPA and DOJ could never have taken place if ExxonMobil’s hydraulic fracturing activities were exempt from the Clean Water Act as claimed in the Josh Fox conflation/fabrication bubble. If the oil and gas industry were exempted from the Clean Water Act, there would be no jurisdiction for those agency’s involvement in a federal Clean Water Act surface water discharge enforcement case.
What this illustrates for Democrats is that using the Gasland entertainment workproduct as a basis for any kind of decision about real world matters is like Democrats tolerating anti-science campaigns aimed at rejection of immunizations for public health protection or Democrats tolerating anti-abortion legislation promoted in an anti-science campaign really intended to drag all women down.

Ask her if oil/gas is ever found sourced outside of sedimentary basins, and what that means to the source of the material.
This is not a criticism of you but the excerpt you posted doesn’t give a moral case for use of fossil fuels.
The writer and most other opinion writers waste our time discussing the good guys and the bad guys and the smart guys and the dumb guys.
Example for the thread discussion:
...Epstein applauds fossil fuels many benefits in developed countries and contrasts impoverished societies with their unreliable and low levels of fossil-fuel resources and utilization and the resulting poor sanitation, rampant disease, limited food production, and minimal transportation of goods. A poignant example is a hospital in Gambia, where infant mortality rates are extremely high due to lack of electric power for ultrasound machines to diagnose in-utero problems and incubators to save the lives of premature babies.
Epstein cites data showing that the more fossil fuels are used, the fewer deaths occur from droughts, floods, storms and other climate-related disasters....
My reply to them is "You first"! Move to your sustainable solar-wind energy heated and cooled hut. Eschew all use of eeevil gas, oil, coal, and nuclear power. Do not eat anything that had to be transported with those eeevil fuels.
Oh, wait...windmills chop up the birdies, scratch the wind. Solar collectors cook the birdies...scratch the solar...hydroelectric inconveniences the fishies...scratch that...Starve and freeze in the dark.
