Leonard Nimoy, who lived long and prospered, died Friday at his Los Angeles home.
The creator of Mr. Spock, television’s most beloved pointy-eared half-Vulcan, was 83 and had suffered for several years from chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), which makes it difficult to breathe.
“I quit smoking 30 yrs ago,” he tweeted last week. “Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP.”
“LLAP” was Spock’s best-known catch phrase: Live long and prosper.
To many of his fans, Leonard Nimoy was a one-hit wonder.
One hit that lasted half a century.
Nimoy created the beloved Mr. Spock in the 1960s cult TV show “Star Trek” and brought him back to life in movies, sequels, cartoons and spinoffs for the rest of his life.

Aww, man! He was one of my favorite characters on Star Trek and loved him in the reboots.

Me too. I grew up watching Star Trek and Spock was definitely my favorite character. Even in college, Star Trek used to get on Channel 11 at midnight.

I meant 1010101010 type logic (binary) but there is no doubt that Roddenberry was a 60s hippy dippy despite being an ex-cop and military man. He gleefully used allegory in the form of aliens representing minorities, religious authority, etc. and he pushed the usual pacifist claptrap. His altruism, however, generally only extended to the end of his genitalia as he had legendary sexual appetites including his flings with Nichelle Nichols/Uhura (even as he dated and eventually married Majel Barrett/Chapel).
Roddenberry and Gene Coon’s ‘race war’ plots eventually became the basis for entire seasons of the spin-off series that followed....tedious to the point where even lefty fans pleaded to get out of the (alien) racial hatred cul-de-sacs.
You are correct that the multi-culti nonsense had the wrong sort of influence on the impressionable. I suppose you could call some Apple product devotees (as well as the company) the current inheritors of the mantle as they serve up PC (pun intentional) with every device sold.
I remember him speaking about how a comet or asteroid impact would actually be for us on Earth in response to the space rock movies. Pretty cool narration.
Third time for me being upset over a celebrities death. Doohan and Kelly were the first two.
