Leonard Nimoy, the sonorous, gaunt-faced actor who won a worshipful global following as Mr. Spock, the resolutely logical human-alien first officer of the Starship Enterprise in the television and movie juggernaut “Star Trek,” died on Friday morning at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles. He was 83.

His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, confirmed his death, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Another tidbit on Nimoy somebody pointed out on the soap “General Hospital” message board... He played a bad guy in the early seasons of the show (circa 1963). Whether those episodes still exist is another question...

Really? Ha.

Yeah they used to tape over old shows, a lot of early TV is lost forever, they never imagined people in the future might want to see it. I know this an issue with many old "Doctor Who" episodes.

Dennis Farina

IIRC, Dennis Farina was an actual cop. Check out the series he was in back in the 80s, "Crime Story" .... a good tough-guy show. At least for the first season, before the writers changed and it got campy. :-) The two-hour premier episode is about as good as you'll find, for TV.

Mrs WBill picked up the Crime Story series boxed set for me. I've still not had time to get all the way through it (who has 50-odd hours????) but I've hit the highlights.

Great Show, and it stands up well. Dennis Farina did an excellent job, but since he was playing himself, I'd guess he was qualified.

As a side note, a running gag in the WBill household is "Current Actors who also were in Crime Story". As in, "'Oh look, so-and-so is in this show.' 'Yeah, he was in Crime Story, too....'"

Seriously. You about can't watch any entertainment without finding them. The latest? "Merle" from 'The Walking Dead'. Michael Rooker played a cop in the Crime Story series premier (I *knew* that he looked familiar.....). :-)

I was watching Get Smart last year and I was surprised to see Leonard Nimoy show up as a Kaos agent in a c. 1965 episode:
