Scott Walker Winning Support Across Entire GOP Spectrum
newsmax.com ^ | 2/27/15 | Melanie Batley

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has distinguished himself among a large field of potential 2016 presidential contenders for having achieved widespread support across a broad range of Republican voters, National Journal reported.

The Journal noted a Quinnipiac poll out this week that gave Walker a 25 percent lead among likely participants in the Iowa Republican caucus, twice as much as the second-place finisher, with consistent support across almost all of the party's religious, class and ideological factions.

The Journal noted that no Republican presidential candidate has demonstrated that level of broad appeal since George W. Bush in 2000.

"The real opportunity for the party is if someone like a Scott Walker can unite this populist wing with the more establishment wing. I think that's a stronger general election candidate than just going down the establishment side [for a nominee] with a lack of energy on the populist wing," John Weaver, chief strategist for John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, told the Journal.

"He has the opportunity to do so — but he doesn't have any definition yet."

The Journal pointed out that in the Quinnipiac poll, Walker leads with both evangelical voters, who make up a substantial voting bloc, as well as non-evangelical voters, by double digits, in sharp contrast with every other rival.

It's Walker or Cruz. We have our nominee and our fallback.

No Jeb!! And if either is not the VP candidate for the other, Jindal can be!

Agree - now let's try to make it so instead of trashing our best choices/hopes.

“It’s Walker or Cruz.”
As much as I support Cruz, I would like to see Walker as Prez. Mainly because he has Governor experience.

I agree and isn’t it interesting that both are sons of ministers?

Walker is doing good so far. I want to see him master the art of television. It’s a non-negotiable feature our candidates need. Cruz is very good on tv, but I would want to see him exude more charisma to be comfortable with him as candidate. He would need to be able to identify with voters to win. Walker does that well. I am not all in with Walker. These two are my preferred candidate. IMO, while the idea of governors running is good...I think the electorate has changed and does not weigh traditional advantages like executive experience and military experience as they once did. The requirements today begin with television appeal and leadership/principle.

May the best candidate win.

Walker made a huge gaffe yesterday comparing union protestors to ISIS and it is starting to go viral. Unfortunately, with Bush’s money and the media behind the scenes, the margin of error is that small for a conservative. The man could be done by the end of the day (and I don’t want that).

I seriously doubt it will matter to anybody important. Reagan, too, cut his teeth battling unions in Hollywood. And it DID make him more seasoned in fighting the communists.

Just as the press never recognized that a significant portion of people who polled as “disapproving” of GWB were unhappy with him from the Conservative side (they always tried to make it seem his policies were unpopular because, well, the majority of people are liberals, right?) they and GOPe don’t seem to grasp just how sick and tired your average Republican voter is with the Bush dynasty. In spite of policy disagreements many of us had and have a personal regard to both presidents father and son, but Jeb is a bridge too far.

Time to elect grownups

Walker as president.

I prefer Cruz in the Senate as leader and taking no prisoners.

Gowdy policing the House

Paul in Cabinet rolling back bureaucracies

Carson overseeing HHS

Perhaps Kasich as Vice, to go out and sell Freedom daily speech after speech.

I hope you are right, but the comments I am seeing across the web are concerning. Cruz is my guy right now, but I like Walker as an alternate if Ted never gains traction.

The Nazis, the Fascists, the Socialists, the Communists, and also ISIS, are creatures of the left, those that want to take liberties away.

Knowing how to fight the left at any level is very good training and seasoning, which is why the left is so fearful of him. He has battled them and won...several times.

I don't think it makes any difference one way or the other as far as the unions go.... They'll support the dumocrap with many millions of dollars even if it's satan himself...

That's kind of strange when you think about it... I worked in trade unions most of my life and it seamed to me most of the "rank and file" were hard working republicans...the men anyways...

Go figure....

I am so tired of hearing this idea that governors make the best presidents, which has not been borne out by history.

Over the past 100 years (or so) we have had 8 presidents with prior gubernatorial experience:

Theodore Roosevelt
Woodrow Wilson
Calvin Coolidge
Franklin Roosevelt
Jimmy Carter
Ronald Reagan
Bill Clinton
George W. Bush

With the exception of Ronald Reagan and Calvin Coolidge, the remaining six have been unmitigated disasters.

That's hardly an encouraging record.

I like a lot of what I know about Walker, but the fact is that he appears to be a supporter of amnesty/immigration reform -- which is a deal killer as for as I am concerned.

Ted Cruz is the ONLY consistent, articulate conservative candidate who seems to understand the proper role of the federal government in all respects.

I believe that when one looks at the whole pack, Cruz is the only one who has the brains, the principles and the experience to save this country, if in fact it can be saved after 100 years of Progressive leftist infestation by both parties.

Don’t know about huge gaffe...usual union thugs probably don’t like it, but there is a large difference between those in Madison and those on shop floors and at least here in WI they’re smart enough to understand that. Take a read of the death threats Walker has had going since he took office the most classic of course being “I’m going to gut your wife like a deer” he’s been dealing with terror threats against his family for 4 years now just because of his politics.

Hell at least with ISIS he can bomb them to death.

The left is always trying to gin up butt hurt. Lets not try to do the same.

I think John Kasich would make a very good campaigner, frankly, a good candidate as well.

You have to look into Kasich, FRiend.

He caved to the unions, pushed to expand Obamacare, advocates the Common Core program and proudly claims to have “evolved” toward Obama’s amnesty program.

He says he is “a conservative but one who cares,” as opposed to all the rest of us heartless swine, you see.

Kasich is weak beer and bad medicine.

NEVER KASICH! NEVER NEVER NEVER. He endorses Common Core and believes tax increases to fund assistance programs are in accord with Mathew: 25 of the Bible. He used that argument recently in discussing his support for increases in certain funding.

Since when does the Bible mandate government enforced contributions to charity?

Kasich is another establishment RINO. I’m sorry I ever voted for the bastard.
