In 1984 a photo of a green-eyed girl staring out of the front cover of National Geographic became an icon of the plight of Afghan refugees forced by war into Pakistani refugee camps. Three decades on and a new picture of Sharbat Gula, this time a cheap mugshot of a middle-aged woman, has come to symbolise the hostility many Pakistanis feel towards people they believe have outstayed their welcome.

On the positive side, if your were her husband, you wouldn’t have to worry about her asking you “Does this dress make my butt look big?” because you wouldn’t be able to see it.

She reminds me of Bomb Magnet woman.
All I see in both pictures is fear.

I vividly remember that photo..they are the eyes against whom I compared all eyes...I didn’t find comparable eyes to marry until I was almost 30. :{)
National Geographic did a follow-up story on her a few years ago. I don’t recall the details, but I assume she was in Pakistan at that time, too. IIRC, the same photographer that snapped the 1984 picture did the update photos.
