60 Percent of Ukrainian Casualties Due to Friendly Fire and Incompetence
Breitbart ^ | 2-22-2015 | Donna Rachel Edmunds

More than half of the Ukrainian casualties in the battle against Russian-backed separatists are killed by friendly fire and lack of training, a British army veteran who volunteered with the Ukrainian forces has revealed. The soldier, known only as “Saffron”, confirmed that the Ukrainian forces were in complete disarray, lacking basic equipment and having no concept of military strategy.

Last week Ukrainian forces suffered defeat at Debaltseve. But Saffron, a 40 year old naturalised Briton of Ukrainian descent, told the Sunday Times that the defeat was inevitable thanks to incompetent leadership and lack of training.

“Six out of 10 casualties among the Ukrainian volunteers occur because of blue-on-blue shooting and the inability to handle weapons. It was clear Debaltseve would turn into a disaster for Ukraine, but the military command and their political bosses just watched it happen in slow motion,” he said.

The command is so bad that it endangers the lives of soldiers,” he said. “They confuse tactics with strategy; they launch attacks without warning each other and for no apparent strategic reason.

“There are nearly 30 voluntary battalions and a number of regular units, but every group is fighting their own war. They don’t have central command, they don’t co-ordinate and they don’t even share radio frequencies between themselves, which makes it impossible to communicate.”

The Maidan activists were the worst, a lot of them seem to be jobless, aimless people who joined the force but are unwilling to learn discipline. I would try to teach them something, and they would say, "Who are you to lecture me? I threw Molotov cocktails during the Maidan. ”

As I said, I suspect the old paradigms probably don't apply anymore but one thing is certain. If you read into the history of the two countries, or ''peoples'', if you will, you'll find while the Russians may have looked on the Ukraine as theirs and Ukrainians as ''little brothers'', the Ukrainian people have not felt the same way.

Not only are you fanatical about Putin, but you are fanatical about posting to me in behalf of others, and just repeating your straw man cliches.

Let’s send them bigger guns that they won’t know how to use.

To you, “fanatical about Putin!” means any politically impure thought that doesn’t match precisely to whatever Kiev’s Orwellian Current Truth(tm) happens to be.

No, I do not.

Someone as lucid as you and others in geopolitics that see fit to fan the flames of war to shed the blood of others’ sons in another Casus belli-lacking conflict can certainly see how one event is linked to another in a span as short as a few days...

No, in your case it means that you are the most rabid por-Putin poster on freerepublic, at least since the Russian soldier got zotted.

“Our POLITICAL LEADERSHIP however, isn’t.”

My comment is not about the shrinking American military or the capability of our soldiers, Marines, airmen (which I was for six years), and sailors. My comment is about Europe’s lack of military preparedness/spending and the missing fortitude in Western nations that the next world war will require.

Our current administration won’t even help the Egyptians and Jordanians bomb AQ/ISIS. He will not send our military to protect a bunch of white people in Europe.

Poland would put up a fight but they are too small. England and France are run by Socialists (with large populations of dangerous Muslims). Canada cannot conduct a meaningful war without USAF tanker support.

Fan the flames of war?

You mean oppose Russian invading up to our NATO borders and wanting them stopped, instead of being successful in their attempts to regain the power to threaten the world again?

You support your side, I’ll support our side, thank God our friends the Brits are making this gesture, it reminds me of Thatcher and Reagan.

Obama will be gone in 23 months, and Russia is no match for NATO or the American and NATO fighting man.

Your complaints seem unfocused and don’t really make sense, they seem to be just a way to express disapproval of standing up to Russia.

You have made TEN posts out of the 49 on this thread so far.

Not ONE of them has anything to do with the posted article, and they are ALL personal attacks against anyone daring to think impure, unapproved thoughts.

ALL YOU ARE DOING IS TROLLING.
Now please go away, and let the adults talk.

The zotted leader, or co-leader of the pro-Putin crowd was wetpheonix, who said that he was in the modern KGB, the organization that Putin ran, now known as the FSB, which is considered technically part of their military.

He had quite a following from the anti-NATO/America crowd.

I am sure of that, and the Ukr has plenty of reasons to dislike the Russians and to want to advance into a future of a Euro flavor. It’s likely to cost the Ukraine everything they have to assert that independence, though. Those are the sad prospects as I see them.
