Israel's first two F-35s will arrive by the end of 2016, with deliveries scheduled to be completed by 2021, the ministry said.

The Pentagon plans to spend nearly $400 billion to develop and build 2,457 of the radar-evading aircraft over the next two decades for the U.S. military and its allies

I was thinking more along the lines of something with a pointy nose and tail, delta wings and triangular canards.

From underneath it would look like a Mogen David...

“The aircraft sparked panic in the ranks of ISIS after bombing its elements and flying in spaces close to the ground,” Iraqi News reported last week after a sortie took out several terrorists in ISIS-controlled territory near Mosul. “Elements of the terrorist organization targeted the aircraft with 4 Strela missiles, but that did not cause it any damage

Strela-2 missiles have been used against Turkish Army helicopters by the PKK in Northern Iraq. During Operation Hammer; on May 18, 1997 a Strela-2 missile was used to shoot down an AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopter. Only a couple of weeks later, on June 4, 1997; another Strela was used to down a Turkish Army AS-532UL Cougar transport helicopter in the Zakho area, killing the 11 occupants.[17][18][19] The video of the first attack was used extensively for PKK propaganda and eventually released to the Internet. Greece and Serbia's intelligence services, as well as Iran, Syria, Armenia, and Cyprus were traced as possible sources of the missiles

I am not an IDF procurement officer.

Israelis have their own logic and needs. Good luck explaining to them why they’re wrong.

“I believe the official Israeli explanation is that the A10 is too specialized. It’s not needed in desert warfare, and doesn’t linger enough to pick off individuals or small groups in hills/mountains.”

Doesn’t linger?Thats a lot of bull. The A10 was designed to loiter for a long while.Much longer than a Apache helicopter and still carry a significant load of ordnance. Its much more lethal than the Apache.

Oh!I forgot it’s Air Refuelable as well.

I found this which makes sense to me

The Warthog is not a "first day of battle" weapon. The US brings them in only after they have suppressed enemy air defenses using other weapons. The IDF is too small to devote resources to an aircraft that it can only use after days of SEAD operations by fighter bombers. Some of us can recall, for example, the heavy toll that was taken on Israeli A-4 Skyhawks during the Yom Kippur War. Low-and-slow is a sure way to get yourself shot down during the opening days of battle in the missile saturated Middle East.

The kind of roles that the Warthog performs for the US are carried out in Israel by a combination of high speed fighter-bombers (which can carry the heavy bombloads needed for larger targets), or by helicopters (which can loiter and pick off individual armor or infantry targets).

I stand corrected. Who else might Israel find advanced fighter/stealth aircraft to purchase from? With all the technology that Israel has, have they not developed their own aircraft—are they that much dependent on other nations to provide such aircraft?
In posting this comment, I’ve come to realize that over decades, Israel has been able to acquire whatever aircraft, equipment, armaments, munitions, etc. that they needed as the nations (including the United States) were their allies, they trusted each other and they supported each other. I’m excluding Russia from that list. Now, the game has changed and with the United States being run by a muslim islamo-facist narcissistic madman, our military weaponry production has been hacked down to stumps, advancements (if any) are being created for the sole purpose of turning them on the United States and its allies (if there are any left), and of course the grand usurper/king/madman-in-chief is an outspoken enemy of Israel and sees to do anything and everything to supplant and destroy them.
God Himself will protect Israel, but He will NOT protect Israel’s enemies. I pray that since there are still “10 faithful left in the city,” (the United States) as in the Biblical account of Abraham asking the Lord God as to whether he would “sweep away the righteous with the wicked”, God will protect those that are truly His. It will become frightening, violent, brutal—of this I have no doubt.
We did not want Obomination in the highest office of the land; we did not vote for him, and I know some of us actually tried to help those that thought this madman was the best thing since sliced bread—some sort of ‘savior’, that every bit of his upbringing, schooling, ideology and actions while as senator and his remarks during his campaign pointed directly at a time in close future (in the United States) where they would eventually lose ALL their rights, ALL their possessions, ALL of their freedoms and maybe even their lives. This, because they wanted “everything free from the government”, “don’t have to work anymore or pay mortgage”, “make history having the first black President”...and more reasons they gave you.
Let them go live in China, where only their male children are allowed to live (one), and he is whisked off to the military as soon as he is old enough to hold and shoot a rifle. Where if they’re caught with a Bible, they’re tortured and imprisoned. Or Russia, where if they say anything against Putin, they become the “disappeared” or found dead in an icy ditch. Where they have to work all day for a loaf of bread.
Our military has a super-secret (not any more!) unmanned “space plane” that stays in orbit for up to a year, then comes back down for refueling/maintenance and then takes off again. It can’t be being used for our good at this point in time.

But Obomination blocked Israel from being able to purchase more rockets for their dwindling stock of such for their Patriot Missile Defense System, until I believe someone in the Pentagon stepped in and processed the purchase anyway.
I think the man is just putting that story to press to make everybody think Israel is going to get these fighters, when they probably never will. With the dynamics in place in just this young year alone, 2016...
There is just way too much that could go even more terribly south in that timeframe.
