Rasmussen: Plurality of Democrats think Obama should be able to ignore court rulings if it’s “important"..... A small reminder that Obama couldn’t get away with his authoritarian plays on immigration and health care if his party wasn’t backing him up. Turns out, in fact, that they’re willing to go even further than he is. Obama tends to limit himself to summarily rewriting federal statutes, like immigration laws and ObamaCare’s employer mandate. Democrats wonder: Why not rewrite some federal court rulings too?

Something to bear in mind as we wait for SCOTUS’s decision on ObamaCare subsidies in the Halbig case and the Fifth Circuit’s decision on that injunction blocking O’s executive amnesty. He’s already entered the YOPO phase of his presidency. Why not make his base happy by ignoring any adverse rulings and instigating a full-blown constitutional crisis?

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 26% of Likely U.S. Voters think the president should have the right to ignore federal court rulings if they are standing in the way of actions he feels are important for the country…

But perhaps more unsettling to supporters of constitutional checks and balances is the finding that 43% of Democrats believe the president should have the right to ignore the courts. Only 35% of voters in President Obama’s party disagree, compared to 81% of Republicans and 67% of voters not affiliated with either major party…

The 2nd amendment seems rather important, he should have carte blanche to change it.

The 1st amendment seems rather important, he should have free reign to change it.

the 4th and 5th amendment seem rather important, if you have nothing to hide then why not let this president exercise his prerogatives

I guess this means we can ignore all those court decisions on homosexual “marriage.”

This is exactly what “leaders” should be calling for the people to do. All the talking heads and so called conservative politicians should be advising everyone, including cops, to ignore Obama’s “decrees”.

Funny, supporters of Stalin and Mao had the same attitude.

Yes, the ones that lived.

I reckon this is what's called a cult of personality, and our chief executive has managed to become a demigod, whose beliefs and attitudes supercede the US Constitution.

Further evidence that today’s Democrats/liberals are actually totalitarians waiting to get out and seize power by any means necessary.

If you’re one of those people and you have a problem with Roy Moore doing what he’s doing, you’re a douche.

I am surprised he hasn't ignored it already. It's not like anyone is going to do anything to stop him.

I was afraid my comment might sound a bit too apocalyptic, but my point was that things can escalate rapidly. Obama comes out of a radical tradition in which casual talk of revolution is commonplace. He does not see himself as a custodian of tradition, and has only contempt for traditional forms that get in his way. He will do whatever he thinks he can get away with. He is playing with dynamite, and I do not think he really cares.

Obama's overreach has had political cover because Harry Reid's democrats have short-circuited legislative remedies. And because Republicans have been burned repeatedly on government shutdowns and are afraid to risk another, even if it is triggered by an Obama veto. And because John Roberts twisted himself into a pretzel on Obamacare. And because the courts have hidden behind standing to kneecap judicial challenges. Etc.

Now the balance has shifted. Republicans have the Senate, though with not enough votes to break a filibuster. And a couple of the legal challenges have matured, and the courts may (let us hope) impose limits. But Obama has become even more imperious as his range of lawful action has diminished. Do I think he would openly defy a court decision? Probably not ... but there are many on the left who would support such an action, and Obama is a man of the left. I think we are at a dangerous moment.
