The only design problem I have ever encountered in the 1911 is the staked in spring tunnel for the safety and slide stop.

I have had a couple get loose.

As I recall, the housing that holds the springs and plungers is a hollow one, with a flat side, that’s riveted to the frame. If the rivets loosen, the housing can move about and may want to fall off. Solution: Replace the rivets, apply Red Loctite on flat side of slide stop/safety spring and plunger housing, set rivets, clean any excess Loctite, and clamp until Loctite sets up. The housing will never move again.
