Pretty unlikely that African slaves embraced Mohammedanism. Being as they were captured, enslaved, and sold by them.

Wrong. Most Africans were animists, therefore ‘rightly’ taken captive. MANY captives were Muzzies but from the wrong tribe. If the hunters were Sunni, Shiites were targeted. Or wahabists, Salafalists, etc. There is a painting from the 1600’s(?) of an old Muzzie slave done by a well known painter (to everybody but me)that explains he was one of the first Muzzies known to be in the country.
