Brian Williams resigns from board of Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation

Disgraced NBC News anchor Brian Williams has resigned from the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation’s board of directors.

In a statement announcing the resignation Thursday, foundation president Ron Rand did not elaborate on Williams’ reason for the decision.

Williams, 55, has been on the foundation’s board since 2006. The organization supports the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, which presents the country’s highest military award for acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty.

NBC brass suspended Williams last week for six months without pay after he was caught lying about being on a military helicopter that was hit by a rocket propelled grenade during the Iraq War in 2003.

Well, it is the Congressional Medal of Honor whether we like it or not. And then the president gets the glory of actually presenting it.

Boston Herald: Williams Snubbed Vets for "Pressing Engagement" (SNL Appearance)

excerpt:

Boston firefighter Neal Santangelo, a member of the host committee that brought the society's convention to the city, told Herald columnist Peter Gelzinis that Williams agreed to serve as master of ceremonies six months before the convention was held in September 2006.

But when he arrived in Boston that day, Williams informed Santangelo and fellow committee member Tom Lyons that a "pressing engagement" back in New York City "prevented him from doing much more than greeting the audience of more than 1,000 guests ... and leaving," Gelzinis wrote in his column yesterday.

"As disappointed as Lyons and Santangelo were," Gelzinis wrote, "they still arranged for a police escort to rush Williams through the tunnel to catch his plane back to NYC."

Several hours later, after the dinner, Santangelo's wife phoned to tell him she knew why Williams bailed on the vets -- he was yukking it up on Saturday Night Live, in its "Weekend Update" mock news segment. - See more at: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/jack-coleman/2015/02/09/boston-herald-brian-williams-snubbed-vets-conference-06-pressing#sthash.TMnYo95V.dpuf

I despise liars especially the ones that want people to think they are so brave..I do not watch any of the networks like NBC,CBS,or ABC on local channels

I do know this if this man is to get in trouble for lying then OBAMA and his lying bunch in Washington should all get their butts kicked out of politics and shipped out on a rail..they open their mouth and lie like a fool..Obama is the #1 LIAR OF ALL TIMES.

True, but if they can cover up so much of what the Clintons have done and so much of what Obama has done, this would have been easy to bury.

INSIDE TRACK - Williams’ cut & run from Hub time riles some veterans

Boston Herald (MA) - October 3, 2006
Author: GAYLE FEE AND LAURA RAPOSA WITH ERIN HAYES

“NBC Nightly News” nabob Brian Williams came under fire yesterday after he reportedly beat a hasty retreat from his MC duties at the Congressional Medal of Honor Society soiree in Boston to appear on “Saturday Night Live.”

One event participant griped to the Track that the newsie “was there for the reception, then kicked off the program around 7:30 and was out of there by 8:30.”

And shortly after 11:30, Williams was “Live from New York!”

Six months ago, we’re told, the NBC anchorman had re-upped to host the annual Patriot Awards gala that honored, in addition to the 61 medal-wearing war heroes, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace.

“You think the man in charge of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan had somewhere else to be than in Boston that night,” groused another fired-up dinner guest.

Ooh, ouch.

Williams was “horrified” by the criticism and told the Track that he had informed the organizers of the dinner earlier in the week that his plans had changed.

“They were fine with it,” said the newsie, a Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation board member. “But the primary focus of my day was to attend the three-hour board meeting and participate in the dinner, which I did. These are my guys, I work hard for them. I love these guys.”

(snip)

Williams has completely disgraced himself, I see no revival of his career in the future and he must know this fact.

I see him isolating himself from everyone and drinking heavily or doing drugs in an attempt to escape reality.

Actually, no. This is a common misconception. There is no such thing as a Congressional Medal of Honor.

The “Medal of Honor” is an award specific to the Armed Forces of the United States. It exists in three types; Army, Navy, and Air Force. The Medal of Honor is awarded by Congress and generally presented by the President.

Congress bestows its own highest award, the Congressional Gold Medal, and the President bestows the Presidential Medal of Freedom. But these are civilian awards having nothing to do with the Armed Forces.

Well of course, you can’t win the medal of honor if you are a member of the board.

With the different awards, it gets confusing. And the press routinely makes it worse for all by its mischaracterizations.

But I guess that’s what the press and Congress do best...confuse ;-)
