Fix this hot, ugly immigration mess
CNN ^ | February 18, 2015 | By Ana Navarro

(CNN)America's immigration issue needs a comprehensive and permanent bipartisan legislative solution.

An executive action is a temporary and limited fix. On the night President Obama announced his most recent immigration executive action, I called it a Band-Aid.

Today, we found out, the Band-Aid may not stick.

n a case brought by 26 states, a federal judge in Texas issued an injunction halting implementation of the President's executive actions: the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (or DAPA) -- which would have granted work permits and extended deferred deportation status and expanded the the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program for undocumented immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children.

What the immigration ruling means

This is just the beginning of the legal wrangling over this. At issue is whether President Obama exceeded his powers and tried to legislate. This is Congress' job, and the problem, to state the obvious, is that Congress is not doing it. For decades, Congress has been talking about fixing the broken immigration system. This has gone nowhere.

On the other side, you have mounting pressure on President Obama from an increasingly frustrated Latino...

Sorry, Ann, but the congress has acted. You just don't like the action. They considered and debated your proposals for amnesty and open borders and rejected them. The president cannot ignore the congress' rejection of his proposal and then create his own law by executive decree.

Here's the solution: Enforce the law. Secure the borders. Immigrants must apply first and get approval before entering the country. Nothing wrong with that.

For decades, Congress has been talking about fixing the broken immigration system

For decades the "bi-partisan" party has done everything it can to replace American voters with Mexicans.

That’s right, the Congress has acted and there are laws now on the books. The Left is not getting the law as they want it so they blame Congress for not giving them what they want.

'Ana Navarro' - I suspect either an illegal alien herself, or a grown up anchor baby.

Both groups like to take it upon themselves to tell us how OUR Country should be run.

EXACTLY, Jim... The “hot, ugly mess” is this administration and Congress who refuse to follow the law and protect its citizens.

This is Congress' job, and the problem, to state the obvious, is that Congress is not doing it.

I don't buy the premise that the system is broken. There is a process for legal immigration. The left claims it's broken because it limits the number of immigrations allowed annually and they think that everybody who applies should be admitted immediately. That can't be allowed to happen.

There is no Latino Problem at large.

The majority of whiners are the cheaters, demanding a handout.

They came here in violation of the laws of every country on the planet.

No country has an open ended policy of allowing anyone, just anyone, to their country unlawfully and with no legal imprimatur.

Try entering any country without a passport and visa.

You will be turned away at customs or if you are found in their country, with no permission under the law, you will be jailed and eventually deported.

It’s clear we can support these illegal imigrants but, they commit so many felonies and are basically line jumpers in a buffet line.

You would expect if you pulled this in a restaurant, everyone would rightfully object and management would send you to the back of the line.

If you objected rudely and militantly you would be ejected and told to come back and follow the rules.

That you are here unlawfully violates our sense of fairness and further, dilutes the lawful immigration process, creating resentment for those who have followed the rules and insult those of us who are Americans by birth.

So, get to the back of the line or GTFO and try again.

Your line jumping is just not tolerable, much less acceptable.

Yup!

That is the beginning and the end of the problem.

Nothing matters and nothing should even be considered until/unless THIS happens

Enforcement and a secure border would be two good ways to start.

Republicans should submit two bills. The first is to seal the border. The second is immigration reform will commence once the border is sealed.

Put. The rats on record.

“the broken immigration system”

That meme needs to be attacked. If I park my car by the side of the freeway and walk away, it isn’t broken down. It’s abandoned. Our immigration laws aren’t broken; they have been deliberately abandoned by both parties, going back to the 1980s.

No—first, “immigration reform” is nothing but amnesty and some more goodies for American employers, and second, they’ll simply claim the border is sealed, then move on to the amnesty part.
