Beware of New Joisey ...

While not germane to this article: Beware of any state that doesn't have a reciprocal agreement with your state to carry concealed.

Born and raised in New Jersey, I left in 1988 thanks to a job offer in Houston. Employers in NJ at the time did not want to pay engineers, and at the time imposed a culture of conspicuous consumption (”image of success” “I wannabe an executive”). Texas paid more, no income tax, lower cost of living, not so much yuppie culture, nuff said.

After consenting to a search of his vehicle. HELL NO!

Makes me wonder: Why the heck would a cop want to search the car of a 72 year old man? The only reason is to FIND something to bust him for.

I know it’s been said many times in this thread already, but never consent to a search. The police are your enemy and delight in imprisoning you. Revenue generation for the state is their sole and overriding purpose and should be avoided at all cost.

I'm sure the FR jackboot lickers will have some sort of excuse like:
  1. Cops don't make the laws they just enforce them or
  2. He was just doing his job or
  3. (and my favorite) You want the cop to go home safe to his family at night don't you?
  4. etc.
It's all a steaming pile. Well jackboot lickers flame away.

More accurately the state is your enemy and the police are agents of the state.

” Never ever, never, never, never give consent. Give them consent to allow you to call your lawyer and have him present. Otherwise, tell them to get a dog, get a news crew, get a f@cking warrant. NEVER !”

Cannot be repeated often enough.

you noticed it was an OLD guy that got the screws.. because they're f'ing cowards. Let them roll through the hood and I'd bet they'd find tons of weapons... but that would be hard and they might not get to munch donuts, shoot steroids and act like f'ing Rambos.

Bunch of pussies.

I feel very sorry for the guy, and can’t wait to move out of the northeast myself. But if he’s a teacher and if he voted for Democrats all his life like most of them, can’t say I really sympathize in that case. It’s karma.

He never should have consented to the search, which was unwarranted (no pun intended) for a routine traffic violation.

"Hopefully common-sense will prevail and this man will avoid jail-time."

When Christian businesses are fined $150,000 for refusing to service gay weddings and when SWAT teams are called out to serve routine warrants, common sense is a thing of the past. We are entering the era of "the government as bully," and it's only going to get worse.

Per Evan Nappen ESQ regarding NJ -

Remain Silent, Ask for your attorney, Do NOT consent. You are required only to provide your name and address. These two answers make you compliant with NJ law. Say nothing more. Do not consent to search and insist your attorney be present during such search.

Most jack-boots will call the Shift Sergeant and get a K9, write you a ticket for something, but you'll get to go home.

Welcome to Peoples Republic of NJ.
