ORLANDO, FL — Deputies and state regulators aggressively raided Orlando-area barbershops, roughing up innocent staff and handcuffing them on the floor in an effort to check if the barbers had acquired government permission to legally cut hair.

A series of these raids has recently come to light, one of which is making its way through the litigation process in the federal court system. This was the raid of the Strictly Skills barbershop in Pine Hills, Florida, in which government agents warrantlessly stormed in the establishment with as many as 25 customers and 6 staff members present.

the article was from 09/2014. the article says it happened it in 2010

*************
Apparently Strictly Skillz won a lawsuit over this.

snip

Unlike previous inspections of Strictly Skillz… the August 21 [2010] search was executed
with a tremendous and disproportionate show of force, and no evidence exists that such
force was justified,” the appellate opinion stated.

The lawsuit stems from sweeps of several minority-owned barber shops and salons in 2010.
Deputies partnered with the state’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation for
what officials described as inspections.

Officials with both agencies said they targeted shops where inspectors had found resistance
or witnessed crimes in the past. Deputies found little illegal activity, but jailed
dozens on a “barbering without an active license” charge rarely used for arrests

I could have been mistaken. I remember reading about it. It could have been somewhere else.

I think Floriduh is also where you have to have a license to be a florist and the “Florist’s Assn.” make sure that no one else gets a license.

You have to have a "license" to operate any sort of business. Pretty much the same in every state AFAIK. Florida is not unique.

All about taxation and control. You don't defy the tax man in this country. That's the "non compliance" that is met with iron fists and jackboots.

Florida has a problem most other states don’t. Snow birds

That is, in the winter like now, Snow birds come down from the north and would try to go into business for a few weeks undercutting the natives and often leaving dissatisfied customers in their wake.

In one way or another, this has evolved due to the actions of our government.

The crap economy, the difficulty of running a legitimate business. If taxes and regulations were realistic, logical and reasonable, legit businesses would proliferate and the market for what you describe would be minimal.

The government, at all levels, is responsible for this gradual transforming of the US into a 3rd world country.

It’s going to continue to get worse.

Thank you. My memory has not been as it should be for some time. I used to get upset when I forgot something. Now I am just thankful for what I can remember.

For all those that tell us the police will do the right thing and be on our side when The Govt goes full tyrant I give you this article as Exhibit A. They will not. The police are never your friend and speaking to them is always a bad idea.

I’m all for limited government and lower taxes, but preventing the spread of disease with common-sense basic requirements is a legitimate function of government. When you live next to Third Worlders who keep thair trash at the curbside seven days a week (rather than putting their garbage out only for pick-up), you’ll appreciate the government that fines them until they act like Americans. The rodents they attract otherwise may convince you.

The country is transforming into a Third World country because that is what our population is becoming; if Americans would breed we wouldn’t be importing so many people from the Third World. Now we traffic them here just to give our government someone to “administer”.

I completely agree.

But we need to understand how we arrived in our current situation. And we don't enforce basic laws and regulations like this with para military attacks on civilian businesses.

No petty infraction of the State's rules is too minor to avoid a para military response.

“Not the Florida I grew up in for sure. It used to be a really great place.”

I have to say that they same holds true for California. I’ve been here for going on 75 years and it isn’t the place where I grew up even though I live less than ten miles from where I went to high school. Just hard to imagine that people would want the changes that have taken place. Thanks RATs!

I think you will find that that’s pretty much the same situation you will find in any major city in this country and a lot of the smaller ones too.

Yes our country has changed and not for the better. We have to get back to our roots. That is going to mean expelling some undesireables. Every country in the Western world is going to have to do it.

“Yes our country has changed and not for the better. We have to get back to our roots. That is going to mean expelling some undesireables. “

I agree, but at the outset, we are going to have to overhaul all of our law enforcement agencies. Almost without exception, the have forgotten ( or never actually knew) what their mission is and who pays them.
Cases like the one below, show the propensity on the part of LEO’s to beat the $hit out of anyone for any reason because they feel assured that they can get away with it. The Blacks think that it’s only they who get abused. I assure you, cops today are “equal opportunity thugs.” They are not welcome in my home as things stand today.
