Subpoenas arrive as Oregon governor announces departure

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Just hours after Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber announced his decision to resign, a subpoena arrived in a state office building confirming that federal agents are looking into the influence-peddling scandal that led to the abrupt end of a four-decade political career.

The Democratic governor gave in to mounting pressure Friday, abandoning his office amid suspicions that his live-in fiancée used her relationship with him to land contracts for her green-energy consulting business.

His resignation, which takes effect Wednesday, cleared the way for Secretary of State Kate Brown to assume Oregon's highest office and become the nation's first openly bisexual governor.

"This is a sad day for Oregon. But I am confident that legislators are ready to come together to move Oregon forward," said Brown, also a Democrat. Unlike most states, Oregon does not have a lieutenant governor. The secretary of state is next in line to succeed the governor.

“.....makes you wonder why they took so long to get those ducks in order.”

But from that recent article where the “female student” at OSU was caught filming her nether region in the library, Oregon was referred to as “The Beaver State!” Will someone from Oregon please clarify!

“Why feds? This should be prosecuted by the State AG office.”

Tax Evasion is a Federal Crime, along with the malfeasance in office that accompanies it! Actually, it’s probably better for the Feds to do it because Oregon is so blue that they would likely have SSSed it!

Is Kitzhaber wealthy? He seems like a perfect guy for a POTUS pardon in Jan 17 (assuming he’s convicted or pleads guilty)

Shortest time for one term, although it isn’t that either.
This was his 4th term - but maybe he is looking at a prison term??

"His resignation, which takes effect Wednesday, cleared the way for Secretary of State Kate Brown to assume Oregon's highest office and become the nation's first openly bisexual governor."

Oh gee, look what's replacing him.
No doubt the weirdly liberal Democrats of Oregon think that this is a terrific improvement.
Is there anybody in Oregon with an ounce of honesty or integrity or morality?
Is there anyone there that is sane?

There has been thought for some time of some counties of Oregon and California breaking away from the yoke of Salem and Sacramento.

This could be a good time for proponents to push for it, while turmoil reigns in Salem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_(proposed_Pacific_state)

Yeah, only been talked about for 70 years or so.

Who and when will organize and petition two State legislatures to allow major tax bases to walk away?

“Is Kitzhaber wealthy?”

Doesn’t look like it, although they can’t count what he and his girlfriend have stolen/not reported. He was an ER doctor before entering politics.

From Politiciannetworth.com:
“Dr. Kitzhaber has a salary of $93,000 per year as Governor of Oregon. Dr. John Kitzhaber has an estimated net worth of $1.5 million dollars.

The idea was making progress until Dec. 7, 1941. That effectively tabled it for quite awhile.

There’s also the question of what the burden is on Oregon and California for this area. It might be to their advantage to be free of some of these counties,

Who the hell named an innocent sheltered body of salt water “Coos Bay”? Was it where sailors went in search of hookers?

Probably named after Coos County, New Hampshire (northernmost in NH):

You must have watched too much “The Sopranos”.

Which begs the question, why is an entire county in New Hampshire named after a slang term from a woman’s wow wow?

Late here but I have been all over Coos Bay and surrounds. The name is for the Coos People (Indian tribe). Many place names on the Oregon coast and especially rivers, are named after the tribes who lived there in the 19th century and before.

The Siuslaw is the center of my old stomping grounds (about 40 miles North of the Coos), and I know the river from end to end, and how to correctly pronounce the name!
