Speaker Boehner and the Frustrated Conservatives

Reactions to John Boehner’s re-election as Speaker have included scant attention to its implications for representative democracy.

As Lincoln noted, “unanimity is impossible; … so that, rejecting the majority principle, anarchy or despotism … is all that is left.” Yet Boehner’s continued Speakership demonstrates that there is now no way for a majority of voters to obtain representatives who will represent them; and no way to compel a purportedly representative government to comply with their clear wishes on matters they consider most crucial.

Angelo Codevilla's contention has been confirmed again. America is now lorded over by an oligarchic Ruling Class. Republicans are indistinguishable from Democrats. For voting majorities, who resoundingly rejected Obama Care in 2010 and all Obama policies in 2014, there is currently no place to go.

Due largely to Boehner, firmly and clearly stated campaign promises on the most important issues have been repeatedly and defiantly broken.

Not All Roll Call Votes Are Created Equal

Less than one month after he rammed through the infamous Cromnibus bill and two days after being re-elected, Boehner held a press conference that merits a prominent place in the museum of memorable denials, such as Nixon’s “I am not a crook” and Clinton’s “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.” The Speaker effectively declared: “I am not a spineless establishment squish.”

Objecting to opposition from the right, he laid claim to “the eighth most conservative voting record [,]” illustrating how unreliable roll call votes are in assessing a legislator’s performance.

Boehner was “re-elected”?

Despite all their tough talk, the House “conservatives” didn’t even run a candidate.

Anyone else get the form letter from your congress critter (supplied to them by Boehner’s office!) in which they explain their craven failure to “walk” their talk?

In a nutshell:

“We’re stuck with Speaker Boehner because none of us had the cojones to challenge him.”

That’s their excuse!

And there are some here who still think the Republicrat wing of the Uniparty will actually challenge it’s out-of-power (temporarily) Demoblican doppelganger and attempt to mitigate some of the tremendous damage done to the Republic over the last six years.

Well boys and girls—hold out one hand to the establishment GOP and ask for a hand from them in exchange for your support; now, cup one hand behind your buttocks.

See which gets filled fastest.

From the last paragraph of the article:

Make no mistake about it. A major priority of the Republican majorities in the 114th Congress will be to con voters into believing that broken promises were kept or that failure to keep them was not their fault.

Sums it up nicely!

America is now lorded over by an oligarchic Ruling Class....

Not who you might think though. Try the worlds big money bankers who give their orders to the (not so) Federal Reserve. They are the ones who really call the shots.

Sadly, I cannot restate/recall all the particulars of a radio "appearance" by Trey Gowdy and Jeff Mulvaney of the Upstate, SC area after the new congress began, with Boehner at the helm. But your sentiments were/are well permeated/entrenched throughout this region, with many a citizen upset and frustrated with Boehner's seating as Speaker of the House. Yet, in reality, Gowdy and Mulvaney layed out a clear-cut case as to why they and so many of their fellow conservatives were literally hog-tied in going with Boehner.

Maybe there are some on this forum who heard the same on the radio that day in particular and can add to what I'm sharing here, but suffice to say, it was in no way a clear-cut case of "caving" ... there is much that goes on that many of us do not have knowledge of, or are privy to, and I am one to give new and returning conservatives benefit of the doubt on this. Let's hope they are able to find ways to be effective in all the days/weeks/months to come without compromising.

Dark days indeed do we all face.

Dark days indeed do we all face.

2016 will be a year of reckoning for Uniparty Members with an "R" after their names.

If just 3-4 million disaffected Tea Partiers (like me) withhold their support from the Pubbies, Boehner will no longer be Speaker, and the Senate will return to the Democrats.

Romneybots and Bushbots have been quiet on FR over the past two months. They know the game is up: why support GOPe when it's virtually indistinguishable from the Democrats. We expected leadership and action, instead we've gotten excuses.
