I read on another thread that the islamics tactic is to breach the main gate with suicide bomb vehicles...seems that they made 8 attempts...or more likely at different points on the perimeter.

The propaganda value though the ‘priceless’. Its not about winning but about wearing the people at home down who lean on the pols for a quick finish. I think they also know the MSM will help their endeavor.

Reading the article, it states that ISIS is shelling the base - probably with equipment the Iraqi army abandoned.

ISIS is doing more than just sending suicide bombers.

They are actually using a version of our own doctrine - combat multiplier. No one action, be it artillery or suicide bomber, could defeat the marines...but in concert, they give a one/two punch. IOW, if the arty is heavy enough, ISIS may just get a suicide bomber in. And as we learned in Lebanon, one suicide bomber can kill a lot of marines.

I hope the marines are doing whatever they need to defend themselves.
