Middle class black families send their kids to college, to the same extent as other middle class families, I’d bet. It’s the single parent kids that are suffering in every way. There’s nothing like a real dad to make you get your rear in gear and make something of yourself.

“These are just graduation rates. We aren’t even talking about college readiness rates,” said Noguera, who is an expert on racial disparities in public education. “What this data suggests is that putting more pressure on students [through high-stakes reforms] is not all that effective.”

Is he suggesting that we make High School Diplomas even more meaningless than they already are so that more black males can get one?

Not one word about the illegitimacy rate of back children. I would be curious to see what the graduation rate is for young black male from intact two parent families. I suspect it would be significantly higher than the 60% rate of the entire black male population.

Male children need fathers in the home.

Not without Affirmative Action.

John Ogbu, a left-wing Sociologist from Nigeria (with impeccable Democrat credentials) was hired to discern why black students from upper-middle-class families in Shaker Heights, Ohio did poorly in high school, compared with their Caucasian peers.

After interviewing many students and parents, Ogbu published his study. The reason? Values!

The Caucasian parents challenged and even demanded that their students apply themselves and do well in school.

The black parents (who were mainly married couples with high-paying jobs) did not demand excellence from their offspring. In fact, the black parents taught their children that education wasn't important and that the educational system couldn't be trusted.

Ogbu was condemned and shunned by his left-wing peers for telling the truth, and died shortly thereafter.
