CHAPEL HILL Police charged a Chapel Hill man Wednesday with first-degree murder in the deaths of three Muslim students in a quiet neighborhood near Meadowmont just south of N.C. 54.
Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, is being held in the Durham County Jail on three counts of first-degree murder.
Hicks is accused of shooting his Finley Forest neighbors, Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, and his wife Yusor Abu-Salha, 21, and Abu-Salhas sister, Razan Abu-Salha, 19, of Raleigh.
Barakat was a doctoral student in UNC-Chapel Hills School of Dentistry. The sisters were N.C. State University students. Chapel Hill police found all three victims dead at the scene, after responding to a report of gunshots on Summerwalk Circle at 5:11 p.m. Tuesday.

By a man who describes himself as a “militant atheist”.
He’s against both Christianity and Islam. The UK papers at least give the details. The US media is too busy propagandizing ideology. The newsdrones will probably omit the salient points.
Must have been random work-place violence.
People are already posting that he was a Christian. This person posted this:

The man arrested on suspicion of killing three young Muslims in North Carolina described himself as an anti-theist and criticised all religions online.
Police said 46-year-old Craig Stephen Hicks handed himself in to officers in Chapel Hill overnight in the wake of the deaths of 23-year-old Deah Shaddy Barakat, his wife Yusor Mohammad, 21, and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19.
He has been arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
As tributes poured in for the young family, a Facebook page in Hicks name showed that he read paralegal studies at Durham Technical Community College and described himself as a supporter of Atheists for Equality
A regular social media user, his last three posts were a cute dog video about the Pavlov effect, a viral advert for Air New Zealand involving mountain bikes, and a picture from United Atheists of America asking why radical Christians and radical Muslims are so opposed to each others influence when they agree about so many ideological issues.
TV programmes liked by Hicks include The Atheist Experience, Criminal Minds and Friends, while he describes himself as a fan of Thomas Paines The Age of Reason and Richard Dawkins The God Delusion.
Hicks pictures largely consist of images with text mocking religion and supporting atheism, but include images of himself and his wife at Disneyland, what he describes as his loaded 38 revovler, and himself separately on a quad bike and wearing a suit.
The shooting of the three Muslims has been widely condemned across social media, including by Richard Dawkins himself, who tweeted: How could any decent person NOT condemn the vile murder of three young US Muslims in Chapel Hill?
ther users have called on people to donate to a charity in Deah Barakats honour. The victim volunteered for a number of agencies providing dental relief to Syrian and Palestinian refugees, as well as caring for homeless people in the US.
I truly despise our news media. It’s nothing but lemming-like Stalinist wannabe’s sucking up to the powers to keep their jobs and their salaries and their cushy access to the elite.
Some day, long into the future the whole lot will be cursed in the histories of this era.
I have NO DOUBT AT ALL that he will be trumpeted on the MSM as a Christian.
Especially on NBC - they have a penchant for lying...
"Karen Hoffman · Top Commenter · Ashland, WisconsinWon't those like her be surprised to discover via PJMedia:Another faux news zombie whipped into a frenzy by Hannity and O'reilly to go out and kill himself some non Christians in the new 21st century crusade. It's great that in the USA we have freedom of religion but heaven help you if your anything but Christian.

"A review of the Facebook page of the man charged in these murders, Craig Hicks, shows a consistent themes of anti-religion and progressive causes. Included in his many Facebook likes are the Huffington Post, Rachel Maddow, the Southern Poverty Law Center, Freedom from Religion Foundation, Bill Nye The Science Guy, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Gay Marriage groups, and a host of anti-conservative/Tea Party pages.
Wow, that was quick... Relevant to list the victim’s religion and affiliations but no mention how the supposed shooter was a ‘radical athiest.’ And no mentions of his affiliations with anti Tea Party groups, liberal causes and gay rights.
Guess those things aren’t relevant to the evolving narrative that the media are lining up.
Somebody better do a screen capture of that very, very inconvenient Facebook page.
I have a suspicion it will disappear.
I hope someone is capturing and saving all his Facebook images since they may be disappeared quickly as a first step to paint this leftist Atheist as a “right-winger” & Christian.
Far safer back at home.
Maybe things will change soon, but I looked through each comment thread, and so far there's been little evidence that anyone commenting there has seen the likes of what is in your link. (And when I looked, there were also around 30 likes for Karen Hoffman's comment.)
An idiot killed these Muslims.
I don’t expect the MSM to reveal that this nut was an avowed atheist.
Since he is liberal, I guess we all can condemn his actions. I personally do not think that Muslim dental students should be murdered.
Stupid, arrogant atheistic liberal just could not contain his hatred for any notion of God, and “snapped”, as they say. Just read the comments below any news story that touches on God, as revealed in the Bible. Pure venom and hatred is displayed. I’m actually surprised this idiot went after Muslims, as the liberal effetes mostly reserve their hatred for Christianity.
I agree. Usually atheists side with muslims.
