Let me help the NYT solve the "puzzle". Demonizing police as racists who don't think "black lives matter" results in more people, especially blacks, getting killed.

Demographics of the city could be a factor.

Yep. This kind of s4*+ tends to happen when common street thugs like Michael Brown are turned into patron saints.

The Democrat mayor and governor told the Trayvons they had a right to riot and kill cops, and then we are required to puzzle over why they did it.

America’s Rap “music” and thug culture.

Clean those things out of American society and there will be a lot fewer killings.

But St. Louis is one of a few major cities, including Memphis and Washington, where the number of homicides jumped last year. It is also one of several cities, including Baltimore, Detroit, Gary, Ind., and New Orleans, where violent crime, concentrated in low-income minority neighborhoods, has remained stubbornly high, though down from the crack-driven peaks of the early 1990s.

Nope. I got nothing.

Well, if they would just prosecute the cops, there would be no murders, right? Problem solved.

the illegal possession of a gun is too often “a crime without a consequence”...

No ones going to take the guns away from the boys in the Hood...

“Crime is the absolute No. 1 priority in the City of St. Louis.”

I think I see the problem. Perhaps they should change their mission statement to "Crime prevention is the absolute No. 1 priority in the City of St. Louis."

Fixed that. Next problem please.

Oh, yeah, it's those "proliferations of guns" that is the problem. Ignore the fact that many people in different (non-big city or rural) parts of the country have tons of guns. And the homicide rates there are a tiny fraction of big city homicide rates.

Here in Wisconsin there are many millions of guns. Yet outside of Milwaukee the homicide rate is equivalent to many European cities/countries with strict gun control laws. Why is that?

Kinda like having a mayor named 'Francis Murder-Death-Kill', isn't it...
