Spending Pentagon spent $504,816 on Viagra last year

By Elizabeth Harrington Published February 09, 2015 Washington Free Beacon

The Department of Defense (DoD) spent more than a half a million dollars on the male enhancement drug Viagra last year, according to government contracts.

The Pentagon issued 60 contracts worth$504,816 for the drug in 2014. All 60 contracts were awarded to Cardinal Health Inc., a pharmaceutical distribution company based in Dublin, Ohio.

Last year DoD also ordered $3,505 worth of Levitra, and $14,540 of Cialis, other popular erectile dysfunction drugs.

The contracts were filed under "Troop Support."

I started at MCRD in 1969. The salt peter in food may have been true but even without it there wasn’t any time or inclination when you are surrounded by almost entirely men and the DIs are grinding your ass into the ground every moment. Your one mindset becomes making it through each day, graduation, and leaving the Recruit Depot on time. Carnal thoughts might only occur in the few moments before you slip into sleep from exhaustion. Now, ITR that immediately followed at that time was a different story.

I never went to baseball game while in boot camp. At least “Hollywood” Marines don’t whine and moan about a little bug, and we didn’t go to the chick boot camp!

All in good fun my friend. Semper Fi!

You’ve just ruined my morning posting this a$$hole’s photo. I have never seen such a prevaricator in a Navy uniform in my entire life. The WWII admirals like Nimitz are spinning in their graves every time this turd opens his mouth.

While often considered a men’s disease of middle and old age, prostrate disease/prostrate cancer is actually no respecter of age or rank. One of the major concerns in treatment is the preservation of male sexual function in the face of fairly invasive surgery, radiation, hormone therapy, etc. It is one thing to be an elderly man who is perhaps facing finishing the relatively short remainder of his life with very diminished or no remaining sexual function. It is quite another to be an otherwise healthy man in his 30s or 40’s facing such a prospect.

With its very lopsided ratio of men to women and exposure of many of its members to numerous environmental factors/hazards, DoD has a significant population suffering from these diseases. It is also home to the congressionally-mandated Center for Prostrate Disease Research (CPDR) headquartered at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

Here’s the link to their website:

Most likely the Viagra, etc. mentioned in the article is being prescribed within DoD to help both active duty and veterans/retirees deal with these after effects.

Yes, I am a former patient. Fortunately, I had really excellent surgeons. I am five years post-operative with 0.0 PSA levels and have never required drugs or devices to function. Not all patients are as lucky.

By the way, DoD also hosts a similar center to deal with female specific sexual health issues.
