Because I think Comcast--after seeing that gigantic fiasco with what happened to Conan O'Brien and the way he left The Tonight Show in early 2010--wants a more graceful exit with Brian Williams from NBC News. I would not be surprised to see the resignation announcement by the end of this coming week.

That only works in the real world, and he probably has some type of
contract already in place which , in his industry, probably doesn’t account
for gross negligence, or in simpler terms lying, conduct affecting the reputation of the organization.
