The Ferrari 250 GT California Spider was issued in 1961
A rare blue Ferrari 250 GT California Spider was discovered rusting away in a French farmhouse under a pile of old magazines. It just sold for a cool $16.2 million USD given its rarity.
The car was once owned by the French actor Alain Delon and was hidden away for than 50 years.
Well, I’ve still got the keys and I gotta say “I’m a little embarrassed”
I had wondered where I parked that thing after sipping champagne and sharing chocolate dipped strawberries with a beautiful woman, as we walked along The Seine.
What a night. Probably shouldn’t have so many bottles but, anyway “How do I get it back?”
I know it’s blue but:
“My uncle preserved for me
An old machine
For fifty-odd years
To keep it as new
Has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant Red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
We’ll fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime”
As the story relates, only 37 models were built.
Its an absolutely beautiful sports car with classic timeless styling and if money were no object, I would have bought it myself.
This is a car to drool over and impress one’s girlfriend with on your exquisite taste in fine cars.
PFL
If it was a woman, I’d vote NOT GUILTY
“So thats where I left it!”
Nothing like dreaming with your uncle by the fireside.
The American pickers are jealous of this find!
Under a pile of magazines, I’m just trying to picture that.
Great story, thanks for posting this, I would never have seen it elsewhere and I can’t wait to tell hubby!
"So Rare"
What is so rare as a day in June?
'Till now we have never been told
The old question's answered by one that is new
What is so rare, dear, as you?
So rare, you're like the fragrance of blossoms fair
Sweet as a breath of air
Fresh with the morning dew
So rare You're like the sparkle of old champagne
Orchids in cellophane
Couldn't compare to you
You are perfection you're my idea
Of angels singing the Ave Maria
For you're an angel, I breathe and live you
With every beat of the heart that I give you
So rare, This is a heaven on earth we share
Caring the way we care
Ours is a love so rare
So rare, You have the warmth of a Schubert air
Charming and debonaire
Those are the words for you
So rare You have a way that's beyond compare
That "one in a million" air
In everything you do
You have that something, that certain manner
You thrill me more than the "Star Spangled Banner"
You stage a love scene, so sweetly tender
And in that love scene I gladly surrender
So rare, to have a future like yours to share
Sweetheart the way we care
No, it wasn’t you.
~Zathras~ left it there.
Wasn’t that the same model that was in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”?
LOL
I wasn’t talking to you.

Yeah... but it was a fake one -
A fiberglass-bodied replica of a 1961 250 GT Spyder California, based on an MG, was featured in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Damn good song.
That’s far from rusty. You can tell a car guy didn’t write the story,Sheesh.
I see several of the smaller- understated Ferrari’s driving around (saw one today). Black. It had a similar look and feel as this sports car.
My goodness..... common ground for us!! I disagree with many of your past posts, but this one puts us on the same page. As with you, if I had the money, I would have bought that classic in a heartbeat.
For the past 4 months, I have worked daily in my pursuit to purchase a new Porsche Boxster (Roadster) GTS. While I won’t be spending millions for my dream car, it’s likely going to feel to me like I did. LOL This will be my last vehicle purchase in this life so, I might as well shoot for the moon.
Cheers.....
Do you already own a sports car?
