Again, pointing out one of life’s oldest truths: “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal ran an article titled ‘Reformicons’ Put New Twist on Tax Debate: Young Conservatives Push Republican Presidential Candidates to Back Targeted Breaks, Not Just Broad-Based Rate Cuts. The headline was succinct enough, making the point neatly summarized by President Reagan years ago. As Reagan might also have said: There they go again. Reformicons have put forth a “new twist on tax debate?” A new twist? Hardly. This is the oldest move in the playbook of GOP moderates. Or, as Reagan once described them, the “fraternal order” Republicans. Republicans who see it as clever strategy to shadow Democratic/leftist policy and proclaim that they can do it better, just cheaper and managed better.
