I told my kids this is rule No. 1 for a traffic stop.

And I have done this myself.

I used to work with a cop’s son, and he further added to remove the keys from the ignition, and throw them up on the dashboard, as well. I got pulled over for a burnt out brake light, one night, about 10 years later, and followed his advice.

When the cop was done, he told me that he wished more people did that, at night, just adds to his sense of calm. I live in a very low crime area of SoCal, but I figure anything that calms the LEO, is good for me, as well. Thanks.
