Yes. But the idea of our Founders was that the independent co- equal branches of the fed govt ( congress especially and the courts) — plus the Sovereign states with their powers ( including the ability to convene a constitutional convention) would serve us to prevent or at least correct any coup from seizing dictatorial power over us. And yes I do realize that the Second amendment’s guarantee against any governmental Infringement of the American people’s right to keep and bear arms was the “protection of last resort” against a dictatorial coup. It’s still amazing ( and scary) just how easily all the other safeguards caved in, and so thoroughly too.
