Good ol’ Ernie has been around forever. He has always been racist and always will be. Every time he says something like this, his popularity goes up in his district.
He was the sole reason we did not have concealed carry permits for about 20 years. He would fillibuster it until it died. And, he fillibustered it the old fashioned way. He talked, and talked, and talked.
We passed term limits several times just to get rid of him. Each time it was through the petition process. They were all thrown out by the courts each time until we bounced one of the State Supreme Court justices out of office. Two others saw the handwriting on the wall and resigned rather than face their retention vote. With new justices, term limits were finally made law.
When that happened, Ernie was booted out for four years and we got concealed carry permits. Since he has never had any other paying job, he ran again after four years out of office and (naturally) won. His first statement on the Legislative floor was, “As I was saying when I was so rudely interrupted.....”
He will live many more years and will never change.
