Not one candidate will ever meet the criteria that would make most freepers happy. I’d bet that today even Reagan would be called a RINO because of some slight departure from perfect conservatism.
Agreed. Scott Walker is far from being "the lesser evil." He will fight for his principles, which are by and large conservative. He was not afraid to take on the union goons in a fairly blue union state. He turned a billion dollar budget deficit into a surplus, proving his fiscal responsibility.
Most importantly, he can win an election against a strong media headwind.
Is he perfect? Nobody is. Would he make a good President? I believe he would. Will he be better than Shrilery or Fauxahontas? You betcha.
Agreed. Some would sacrifice the “very good” as they wait for unattainable perfection to magically appear. People searching for mates often do this and end up old and alone.
No, but certain issues are deal-breakers. Any one who favors open borders is not fit to be president, IMO. If we don't have secure borders, we don't have a country.
I’m a recently converted conservative (it’s a long, sad story) and borderline libertarian at this point.
What would you consider to be “perfect conservatism?” Granted, I haven’t read a great deal on conservative ideology which is why I ask.
FYI, this isn’t a trick question.
“Not one candidate will ever meet the criteria that would make most freepers happy. Id bet that today even Reagan would be called a RINO because of some slight departure from perfect conservatism.”.
You got that right, unfortunately. Not only do we have to go against leftists in academia and the news media, we are faced with a rather large percentage of conservative folks who will never vote again, according to their need for some sort of false god who is perfect.
It is so disheartening to read the comments on these freeper boards.
As for me, I remember Barry Goldwater’s speech at the 1960 convention. He asked the conservatives to grow up. He was my first presidential vote in 1964!
