FORT WORTH — For some faithful rodeo fans, the inclusion of a Muslim imam in the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo has become a burr under the saddle.
The Stock Show has become more diverse this year as officials have let more groups offer prayers before the start of events. But the Facebook page for the 23-day event lit up this week after Moujahed Bakhach of the Islamic Association of Tarrant County led the public prayer Sunday night.
While many of the comments on the Stock Show’s Facebook page were supportive of the more inclusive prayer policy, most were not.
Opposition seemed directed not personally at Bakhach or his words but at the inclusion of a member of the Islamic clergy during a time of violence involving Muslim terrorists.
A sampling of the sentiments expressed: “I for one won’t attend an event that allows a darkness to be spoke over me,” “Muslim/Islam has no place in this country” and “I just will choose NOT to go somewhere that embraces a religion that wants me, my family and my people DEAD.”
On Wednesday, the Stock Show posted: “We would like to take this opportunity to separate fact from fiction: There was never a Muslim prayer — or a prayer of any specific religion at the Stock Show.”

Either this disaster is a PR meltdown in the nth degree, or this was done on purpose, including planting false commentary while deleting opposition and denying that allowing an imam to bless the event was actually a “Muslim prayer.” I am curious… how many other sporting events in the US are planned with a “faith-based committee?” Why would one be necessary? https://www.facebook.com/fwssr/posts/10152878587170817

It was always the Fat Stock Show. Then in 78, they changed their name for mass appeal. They were leaders in the politically correct thinking. Looks like they are getting worse.

They’ve created “Islamaphobia”. They accuse us of having an unfounded fear of Islam. Why is this being done? Why are we opening our doors to these evil people? I simply don’t understand it.
I’m starting to believe that islam is the “great deceiver” if not the AC. I know there are millions and millions of people, probably a huge majority of the citizens, who believe it’s a peaceful religion. In fact, for many of them that’s the only thing George Bush ever said that they beleive.

For the last 35 years all we’ve heard is their belligerent Bull Shiite.
Over the last 15 I have heard over and over how they are “hurt” that we, the infidels, are in their lands.
Well, D***kheads. We made those lands, helped you explore, tried to set you up with modernity and you have been resisting the whole time.
Even now, I have idiot fellow Americans who think we should try to reason with them and understand them.
I don’t have any capacity to understand killers and will not waste time trying to break bread with them, while they are looking for the opportunity to break open my head.
So, if Americans don’t want some Imam at an American event, you should honor it.
Because, while your censorship of their commentary on your webpage is a right you enjoy, they are your customers and if they don’t want to come to an event because of strongly held beliefs about how the Muslims treat us, then your opinion will not be long lived, as your business suffers.
Censorship is asinine and arrogant.
Boycotting or outright losing interest in your business then makes the inter-exchange a two way street, with you having the most to lose.
I make no apologies for my views. They are based on observable facts and an extraordinarily long period of religious intolerance, belligerence and outright desire to dominate the rest of us.
Watching in real time the events of the last 15 years ought to inform your conscience and reason should be the basis of your action.
Not some feigned emotion hoping the world will be any different than it currently is.

What I want to know is why is “vitriol” something only associated with Christians, never muslins or atheists? And some of the comments at the site are adorable with the atheists and gaia worshipers comparing historic acts/punishments from the bible to stonings and beheadings, amputations, floggings, rapes, child brides and female genital mutilation as practiced by (laughably) modern muslims. And they actually believe that Christians are more intolerant and violent.
You put the historical perspective together well. I have no argument with your sentiments. My family were an ethnic minority in America. We understood the great blessing of settling in a free land. In school, we were happy to go along with American customs, whether celebrating Christmas or whatever wasn’t part of our family’s tribe. Today’s immigrants, Muslim and most others, cannot imagine an America united by the idea of tolerance, goodwill toward your fellow man, limitless progress, opportunity to those who work hard. My America, the one I was fortunate to be raised in, exists in my memory, but not around me here in my town, which is profoundly depressing.
You bring Atheists into this discussion. Please read my post above. I am an Atheist. I’m uninterested in religion, per se, as long as we tolerate each other’s different views.
