Tim Cook Defused Steve Jobs' Thermonuclear War, Then He Took Down Android
Forbes ^ | Saturday, January 31, 2015 | Evan Spence

I’ve already spoken about one of the plays made by Apple and Tim Cook to damage Android. This was the push to 64-bit computing in the iPhone 5S. As that smartphone was announced, the roadmaps for Android devices did not have 64-bit computing planned in the near future. Manufacturers and component suppliers were bounced into making bold claims that they would join Apple in the 64-bit world.

They had no choice but to do this. Android’s success was built around the promise of being faster, better, and stronger than its rival OS. If Apple was 64-bit, Android had to be 64-bit as well. Promises were made, plans were changed, and the rush to 64-bit comp

The impact of that push remain to this day. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 was the chipset expected to lead the charge, but production issues have forced manufacturers to delay products into Q3 2015, or choose alternative chips with the resulting compatibility problems of running third-party Android applications.

Apple weakened the chipsets in Android by forcing the manufacturers to follow them on the 64-bit roadmap. Resources, time, and developmental energies were directed away from competing directly with Apple and into something that has taken far longer than planned.

My experience in that was with a special "computer system" back in 1966 that my high school had, which had no monitor (only red lights for register contents), no hard drive or floppy (only punched paper tape to save programming) and only using 1s and 0s (requiring us to even program it to multiply and divide), and making up our own mnemonic programming language, on the fly. That's all that was out there

I just want to use today's devices now ... :-) ...

My old input device ...

and only using 1s and 0s (requiring us to even program it to multiply and divide),

And sometimes we didn't even have the 1s.

Well, you can try explaining to the moderator that my account needs to be banned to keep from disrupting Apple threads, because every time they see my name on a post to one, Bunny Slippers is going to come it wanting to start a flame war.

I'm sure they'll understand.

That would explain why my account isn't banned.

Customers who recognize the value of Apple products are going to champion them! Nothing could be more natural.

AND ... we can see from the AMAZING BUSINESS PROFITS that Apple has a whole lot of customers buying their products! That’s a success story for America’s free enterprise system!

Well, y’see, I can’t make a living without using a computer and the Adobe CC Suite, which means I either use Windows, which profits a gun-stealing thug who will try and make me register my guns or declare me to be a felon, or a homo guy that isn’t trying to steal my guns, and...who, coincidentally, makes the computer best suited to my workflow, (as it has been thus for over 20+ years!)

To me, the choice is clear...

As an aside, Tactical, what do you think of IBM’s partnering with Apple to bring Enterprise to the iPad?

I don’t have a dog in that fight, I’ve never owned an iPad and probably never will...

Hard to say. Are they running it on MicroChannel Architecture?

iOS developers poised to win big in Apple-IBM deal
http://www.infoworld.com/article/2608448/application-development/ios-developers-poised-to-win-big-in-apple-ibm-deal.html

Mobile developers with knowledge of Objective-C and Apple’s fledgling Swift language could be the big winners in the company’s newly announced partnership with IBM.

That alliance has IBM firmly endorsing the iPad, with Big Blue reselling Apple’s popular tablet device preconfigured with enterprise apps for vertical industries. More iPads will end up at large IBM shops, opening up new markets for iOS application builders.

Some — but not all — iOS developers could have a major opportunity to earn lots of income in the enterprise space, said iOS application developer Christopher Allen, CTO of software developer ReOrientmedia.com. “Working at an enterprise level often requires ‘full stack’ skills, from UX to client engineering and on through to a scalable back end, which is the kind of experience the more indie app developers don’t have,” he noted. “Those teams that have this broader experience will do well.”

Apple’s Swift development language, introduced in early June, could get a big shot in the arm thanks to the partnership. “It certainly looks like IBM will be retraining a bunch of its consultants in Swift — that might push a few of its customers down that direction too — which would be a long-term win for Apple,” said Forrester analyst Jeffrey Hammond.

Allen, who has studied Swift, does not see the language as specifically geared toward business apps, although it does offer security benefits. Security of course, is a principal concern of enterprises. “There is nothing specific to Swift for business. It’s an alternative to Objective-C that is more ‘modern’ and thus can address some of the common errors a programmer can make while coding.”

You've got two companies with a long history of animosity and both with deep-seated NIH syndrome.

Place your bets.
