(Reuters) - Government buildings and federal highways planned in the future will be constructed safe distances away from flood areas that are expected to worsen due to climate change, the White House announced on Friday.

More than $1 trillion of property and structures are at risk of inundation from sea level rise of two feet above current sea level, the White House said in a statement, and that level could be reached as early as 2050.

As long as its just government buildings I don’t have a problem with it no matter how idiotic their reasons are.

OK

Than that would mean within at least 100 miles of any seacoast or any ‘navigable water’.

We KNOW glowbull warming will raise the seas and drown us all due to oceanic FLOODING.

First, move infrastructure from flood prone areas.

Next, move people from flood prone areas.

Next, move the people from wildfire prone areas.

Ditto for tornado prone areas.

Earthquakes.

Removing Agenda 21 tinfoil. It can’t happen here.

It would give Obama an excuse to move the White House to a mountain top on Hawaii.

Its the idea of moving highways that I have a problem with. LOTS of our highways cross flood prone areas out of necessity now.

I don’t have a problem with them building federal buildings on high ground. However Washington DC is at sea level.

Wasn’t it global warming that ended the ice ages?

Ok, I just looked up the numbers, and the seas have been rising very slowly since we started measuring in the middle of the 1800s. The fact that sea level changes over large periods of time shoudln’t really surprise anyone. And it was rising before we could be blaming it on modern emissions. So BS on it being man made.

However, it IS happening. From the numbers, adding 2 feet by 2050 is stretching it a bit but could easily be the case if this trend continues for another 75-100 years or so.

It does look like we’ll add at least 1 foot by 2050 if the current trend continues.

So do we need to be careful where we build? Yes. For the political man-made global warming reasons? No. Simply because there is a slow change in sea level that is HAPPENING.

Cut Obama some slack for Pete's sake. He said he'd "stop the rise of the seas".

He's still got two years left to do it.

He's already "saved" millions of jobs with his various stimulus plans.

Because they haven't yet come up with any socialist, Agenda 21-style legislation that can stop an asteroid impact.

National Geographic says 5 feet.

We saw how that one ended.

he’d “stop the rise of the seas”.

That was an error, and should be the “C’s”, meaning the Caucasians.

I’m still confused by all of this. If an ice sheet broke off the main glacier, and slid into the water, and this was in Antartica, I would think Australia, South Africa, India and other countries in the southern hemisphere would be building hundred foot walls to stop the water.

And why is only the US in danger? Does the ice sheet know something we don’t?

Until a scientist comes forward and tells us 1) how to stop global warming, 2) what happens if they overcompensate and we go into a period of global cooling and 3) what is their mitigation strategy, they are as far as I am concerned full of crap.
