Rep. Tim Ryan says politics aren't behind abortion switch

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Niles-area Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan said in an interview Wednesday that his announcement that he now supports abortion rights was motivated by dealing with his wife's pregnancy last year, not politics.

The thinking behind a column he authored in Tuesday's Akron Beacon Journal to announce his abortion switch "crystallized over the course of our own kid being born and going through that process," said Ryan, whose son, Brady, was born in June.

The column explained that Ryan considered himself to be "pro-life" after being raised Catholic, but 14 years in political office gave him "a deeper understanding of the complexities and emotions that accompany the difficult decision that women and families make" when deciding whether to end a pregnancy.

"We are very fortunate -- we had a healthy baby and pregnancy -- but it became very apparent to me in this process that Uncle Sam should not be in the room with us regardless of how the tests came back with the health of the baby," Ryan told the Northeast Ohio Media Group in an interview. "If something did happen, it should be our decision to make, and the government should not be in that room."

"If something did happen, it should be our decision to make, and the government should not be in that room."

Maybe he's saying his wife was raped and they had to choose whether to keep it or not.

If not, I can't imagine why he would cite having a healthy, wanted child being happily married would convince him that abortion should be an option.

Oh Tim, Tim, Tim. It is not Uncle Sam you need to be concerned about. There is someone else in that room with a little more “higher” power you need to be worried about.

Allow me to expand on your Post. LOL

So, if the Baby came out looking like Al Sharpton, he could kill it without worrying about the government being in the room?

It’s both politics and money. He’s being primed to run for Senator in 2016 and the Dems no doubt informed him he’d have “problems” if he didn’t sack his “parochial” pro-life stance (and especially with fundraising from ultraleft groups where infanticide is a high holy sacrament). He sold his soul for power.

Convoluted b.s.

Timmy boy, thanks to your party, that horse left the barn years ago. You morons have Uncle Sam's nose in every home, church and business taxing, regulating, gathering information. Not to mention spying on our every move. Our businesses are regulated, our cars are regulated, our toilets are regulated, our puddles are regulated, our food is regulated, you just tookover the whole freakin' health care system and now, now?, you're worried about government intrusion in your private life? Give me a break.

You gotta come up with a better excuse than that, son. Ya sound like a sad fool.

I don’t see how anyone has a child and from that experience it changes their mind to be pro-choice.

I honestly don’t. If he was just honest about it I’d at least give him points for honesty.

Yet another “Catholic” politician whose faith means absolutely nothing to them. Thank you Ted Kennedy, Mario Cuomo, Nancy Pelosi, etc., etc., etc. Christ, come quickly!

Greetings fieldmarshaldj:

Same thing with Dickless Durbin. Formerly a pro-life, conservative Roman Catholic Democrat of little means; today, a money grubbing, anti-constitution, eugenics and total police state loving, dirty money made millionaire democRat. There has to be a special place in hell for such scum.

Cheers,
OLA

Sounds like he and the missus were planning to kill their own kid if there was anything wrong with him. True Democrat on display.
