Texas Executes Killer Robert Ladd After Low-IQ Arguments Rejected

Texas on Thursday executed a man convicted of fatally beating a mentally disabled woman -- after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected arguments that he has an IQ of 67 and should be exempt from the death penalty.

In his final statement before the lethal injection, Robert Ladd, 57, addressed the sister of his victim by name, telling her he was "really, really sorry."

Ladd was sentenced to death for hammering, strangling and setting ablaze 38-year-old Vicki Ann Garner in 1996 — while he was on parole for a 1980 stabbing and arson that killed a woman and two children.

Ladd's lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union said his IQ fell below the threshold generally accepted for impairment, which prosecutors disputed.

"Texas aggressively pursued Mr. Ladd's execution, despite the fact that our constitution categorically prohibits the use of capital punishment against persons with intellectual disability," defense lawyer Brian Stull said in a statement.

Yes. They should also execute whoever was responsible for letting him out. Complicity to murder?

“while he was on parole for a 1980 stabbing and arson that killed a woman and two children.” Excuse me, but was that not enough for the death penalty, yet he was given parole? The world is upside down and favors the evil.

I suspect that my IQ is somewhere in the vicinity of 100 but I would think it would be pretty easy to fake a low IQ.Tom hanks did a pretty fair job of it in Forest Gump.

I have no idea what the IQ of Butch, my Rottweiler mix rescue dog is. I would trust his moral judgment over most humans.

It’s hard to say he even murdered the ‘victim”. After all he seems to have been “unarmed”, just as St. Trayvon of the Skittles (SBUH), since all he did was hammer, strangle, and burn the “victim.”

Go Texas go! Enforce the death penalty! Speed up the appeals process! The death penalty is the ultimate deterrent.

Yes, the world has gone crazy. Why do they keep releasing these predators? Watched a crime show the other night where some guy had murdered a fellow teenager 30 years ago and had molested many young boys at the same time. When they found the guy, he was in prison for trying to solicit a child for sex. He only got another 7 1/2 years for the murder and is now out of prison. I’m sure he is already abusing other children. People this evil should be executed or spend their entire lives in prison.

Also, is someone has enough brain cells to commit a violent crime, he should be punished for it.

When are they going to execute the judge who let this animal out on bail? After all, *he* is responsible as well.
