No one should be fooled by those who claim UN forces are “peacekeepers”. They are well armed forces placed in an active war zone by countries that have chosen to involve themselves in the conflict.

Besides the fact that we were all told repeatedly in 2006 that UNIFIL would be greatly strengthened, the F in UNIFIL stands for forces. It’s not called UNIPIL.

UNIFIL forces monitor and report on Israeli troop movements to the enemy, and they often end up as human shields for the enemy as well.

Anyone who believed UNIFIL would disarm Hezbollah with the passage of Resolution 1701 in 2006 will be sorely disappointed.

I’m not defending the UN “peacekeepers,” but simply pointing out that the Europeans are going to completely ignore the Hezbollah attack and blame the Israelis for everything.

They’re not “well armed.” Even Ehud Olmert in 2006 said UNIFIL was weak. They were “useless and helpless,” according to him.
