“You also have the power to exercise a parental nuclear option: If edu-bullies play hardball and oppose your right to refuse, tell them you’ll have your kid take the test and intentionally answer every question wrong — and that you’ll advise every parent you know to tell their kids to do the same. How’s that for accountability?”

It is virtually impossible to score a zero on a multiple choice standardized test, unless you actually know the correct answers. A lot of very bright kids could make waves by answering every question incorrectly, and then pointing out they should be commended for for demonstrating their mastery of the tested material.

Thank you for the post. And thank Michelle Malkin for an incredibly richly researched report on the educational testing racket.

The first wave of ELA testing involves three tests, two hours each. That means all ninth graders will miss three days of class just for one test. Here in Ohio, ninth graders will take an additional three math tests, one science test, and one social studies test. That's eight days of two hour testing. Because of the rigorous testing we're supposed to take it easy on the students the rest of the day. Additionally, each teacher proctors his or her students, so the teacher isn't even in the classroom for the first three periods of the day with students not testing. In May we will start the process all over again since PARCC and AIR both contain two components. Finally, the state is requiring all sophomores to take the social studies test, but they are also required to take the OGT which is an entire week of testing. Sophomores will, at this point, be testing for three straight weeks.

The first wave of tests are a combination of multiple choice and extended response. Here is a link to the 9th grade ELA practice test. Take it. I think you'll be shocked.
