The weather guy has a point. Joe Bastardi points out that the European and Japanese models for North America have been to be closer to what happens than the US models.

It was the European model that got it wrong and it was the US GFS model that got it right.

Here’s a quicker explanation: Weather and natural disasters are now a tool of economic stimulus and political exploitation.

Excellent summary.

the New York subway system was shut down for the first time ever because of snow? The New York subway was shut down on a weather forecast.

It's unbelievable that Mayor Wilhelm shutdown the subway because of snow. Unheard of.

First time in history that the NYC subway system was shut down!!! Ruch Limbaugh is on target with his assessment.

RUSH: Here we are alive to tell the tale. Nobody perished, nobody died despite Mayor de Blasio's warning that few would survive this historic snowfall. I told you yesterday. You know, and, by the way, I hope everybody listens to the way I'm gonna analyze this today, because this is a key thing people are going to have to realize. They're going to have to learn why this happened. Why was this presented, this forecast -- and, even at its worst, it was gonna be 24 inches, which New York has survived countless times.

And what a laugh to see Cuomo closing roads in 14 counties beginning at 11 pm with the warning that drivers who ventured out would be committing a crime and fined $300. Amazingly, he said it with a straight face. ROFL! This from a man who stopped the Moreland Commission from investigating government corruption. Lol!!

I had to sit at home yesterday and was getting so PO’d at all these stupid cable news programs talkign about this storm like the Northeast is the be all and end all of the world!
There was almost nothing else talked about all stinking day long every time I checked! It was disgusting. At least OAN was talking about other things going on in the world.

I went here yesterday: http://www.intellicast.com/Local/WxMap.aspx

Went out to a national/regional view, and because this map dealt just with rain/ice/snow, it was obvious in the early evening that New York City was going to miss the bulk of the snow.

The ‘channels’ kept showing the cloud cover, giving the impression that was the affected area. It was obvious it wasn’t, since it extended east to Ohio at the time. And I wasn’t getting snowed on.

Yes, at around 6pm last night looking at the maps and water vapor images, one could see the low jog a bit east.

Right then and there the forecast should have changed for NYC.

Nice take.

Cuomo closed down roads with the warning that drivers who ventured out would be committing a crime and fined $300. This from a man who calculatedly stopped the Moreland Commission from investigating government corruption.

Cuomo's fast-tracked to becoming a loser like Loosiana loser Landrieu---this one actually vilified her own voters---saying they were too conservative to understand what a great candidate she was....and that she had to dupe them into voting for her.

I think Rush Limbaugh is wrong on this, and he hurts his credibility when he makes these sorts of comments from Florida where they don't have to worry about snowstorms and blizzard conditions.

Ask anyone east of New York City or up in New England -- where they are buried under 2-3 feet of snow -- if anyone got this "wrong."

This wasn't an over-hyped storm. It simply tracked further east than many forecasters predicted, so the snowfall totals in New York City itself were lower than expected. If they didn't shut the city down and they ended up getting it wrong the other way, I suspect Rush Limbaugh would have been sitting there in Florida today cackling about how incompetent government officials in the Northeast are.

What was sort of hysterical was that Shep came on to do his crisis central role at Fox. All of his contacts were standing around outside in NYC, and all were probably able to catch each an every snowflake in their vicinity....there were so few.

And then for whatever reason I woke up twice last night and continued to check on it, and Fox was running Shep’s 10 pm’ish broadcast over and over. All hype, danger, curfews, blathering mayors, etc., etc..

Fox would have gained a lot of credibility saying the obvious, that the NYC Blizzard of the Night was a bust.

You hit on one good point there. For a lot of the media, they can only relate to stories like this from a New York City perspective. That means every winter storm that sweeps up the East Coast has to become a New York City event, and every hurricane that strikes Florida or Louisiana has to become the subject of Monday-morning quarterbacking by some @sshole — who doesn’t know anything about meteorology — sitting at a news desk in Manhattan.

NYC based national news networks confuse local news with national news. We’ve been treated to NYC bad traffic news, NYC food news, NYC concert news.

Like those of us in flyover America are gonna jump in the car and rush on over.

When a government official decides to shut down a highway system, this is exactly what they are trying to prevent:

January 2015: 170-Vehicle Pileup on I-94 in Michigan

Just watch that video in its entirety and see what a highway department has to deal with when you've got thousands of motorists driving in hazardous conditions. I'm surprised the fuel truck in the video never exploded, though another truck carrying fireworks didn't meet such a good end.

Marxists excuse themselves when they are off by 150 miles, but George Bush was supposed to know exactly how much and where Saddamn’s WMD was.

Fine, but then they conspired to present the model with the highest fear factor to feed the egos of tyrants, threaten citizens, as well as train them to expect it all the time.
