But in a 1994 letter to the pro-gay Republican group The Log Cabin Republican seeking their endorsement Romney said he would cosponsor Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act, eventually support gays serving openly in the military, and said he would help achieve equality for gay and lesbians that his opponent Ted Kennedy could not.
