Here on the Gulf Coast we get the same kind of histerical warnings. The only people who should evacuate from a hurricane are those close to the coast that will be affected by the storm surge. Instead people who are safe in their homes and should stay put, get out on the roads and the traffic is so bad that no one can go any where. I know people who sat in their cars, stuck in traffic for 9 hours or more. They finally turned around and were back home in 30 minutes.

Yup, I live right on the water, Galveston Bay and there is no way I can get inland since all the roads leading inland are full of folks from Houston evacuating. So I just ride out hurricanes here in north Galveston County.
