The U.S. Department of Justice secretly spies on millions of cars by gathering and storing information about motorists in order to build a national database to track movements, according to a new report in the Wall Street Journal.
The database was originally used by the Drug Enforcement Administration to hunt vehicles involved in drug crimes by tracking license plates, but according to the WSJ, the program expanded to hunt for criminals sought for crimes that were non-drug related.
DEA officials have been on record saying they track vehicles near the U.S.-Mexico border to help fight drug cartels, but the new revelations, according to the WSJ, show that the DoJ has been working for years to expand the database throughout the United States.
As a result of the expansion, state and local law enforcement officials now have access to a wealth of information to track motorist in real time.
These new revelations, of course, add to the ongoing public debate about the size and scope of the governments surveillance programs and whether they infringe on privacy and civil liberties.
not every one.
I’m glad I’m not doing anything wrong, so I don’t have anything to worry about.
Until they change the definition of ‘wrong’...
“(Senator Leahy) said Americans shouldnt have to fear their locations and movements are constantly being tracked and stored in a massive government database.”
I cannot remember the last time I agreed with him on ANYTHING, but he got this one right. The only question now is whether the REPUBLICANS are willing to take a few minutes out from their Amnesty-plotting to address this issue.
That kill the engine bit could be used to kill someone. Say they killed your engine on a freeway where everyone was going 75? That would likely be it. Youd be crashed into quite quickly. Very frightening.
In the wrong hands yeah it could be used as an assasination tool and probably already has (Hastings). I'm sure some mechanics will figure out a way to bypass or remove it and make a killing. BTW I meant to say that the chips were manufactured for vehicles for manufacturers with those features per government direction. The person I talked to was one of the engineers who didn't approve of the overreach.
> Hidden cameras are already there. In every cell phone, tablet, and laptop.
Anything that already has a camera or microphone in it can be used against you. Look up Flexispy or Mobispy for use in cell phones. They require manual installation on your phone though however someone with unlimited access to the cell networks and tools they use, wouldn’t. And I bet they do give them unrestricted access for a fee paid for by tax $$$$$$...

Those testimonials look like many are written by the same people...lol
I remember when there were roadblocks and vehicle logging to try to locate/identify the DC sniper (duo).
The perps were logged in the vicinity of several of the shootings but not apprehended because "these are not the droids you are looking for". A racist 'moose' let people die because he was so damn certain that it was white guys in a white van and not gay muslims at work.
> “(Senator Leahy) said Americans shouldnt have to fear their locations and movements are constantly being tracked and stored in a massive government database.”
What context did he mean when he said that? Was it that “Americans shouldn’t have to fear” unless they have something to hide?
Politicians like Leahy are masters at deceit saying things that have different meanings in different contexts.
I fear it because the government doesn't give a damn about tens of millions of illegal invaders in this country. "Oh, it's too big a problem! They are undocumented! We could never track, or audit, or deport all of them!"
hidden mics are in the new ‘smart tvs’... they are live and will send out the data if thy find connection
I’d be surprised if they didn’t have cameras
You mean, like the IRS or something? That would be terrible!
But I'm sure it would never happen here.
Drug "crime" investigation was never more than the camel's nose under the tent - and some conservatives bought the con because the ostensible targets were hippies and other cultural undesirables.
apropos pic.
They squandered freedom
but got a million hits on Twitter.

Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...
If they want to spy on my car, then fine. Hopefully, the data they collect from me will cause them to die from boredom.
I Spy Nanny State PING!
My office and personal laptop have gaffer’s tape over them. I have a webcam for the tower that stays on a shelf until needed for the one off video conference.
