U.S. Army General Dempsey Sponsors Essay Competition to Honor Saudi King [Amerabia]

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has established a research and essay competition in honor of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz hosted by the National Defense University.

The king, who died Jan. 23 at age 90, oversaw the modernization of his country’s military during the time he spent as commander of the Saudi Arabian National Guard, a position he held from 1963 until he became king in 2005. Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey said the essay competition is a fitting tribute to the life and leadership of the Saudi Arabian monarch.

The king was a lifetime supporter of his country’s alliance with the United States. Abdullah ruled Saudi Arabia from 2005 to his death, and served as regent of the country from 1995. He is succeeded by King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz.

“This is an important opportunity to honor the memory of the king, while also fostering scholarly research on the Arab-Muslim world, and I can think of no better home for such an initiative than NDU (National Defense University),” Dempsey said in a statement announcing the competition.

The competition will focus on issues related to the Arab-Muslim world and is designed to encourage strategic thinking and meaningful research on a crucial part of the world. The program will be in place at NDU for the next academic year, officials said. Dempsey first met Abdullah in 2001, when he was a brigadier general serving as the U.S. advisor to the Saudi Arabian National Guard. “In my job to train and advise his military forces, and in our relationship since, I found the king to be a man of remarkable character and courage,” Dempsey said...

[From Wikipedia] The National Defense University (NDU) is an institution of higher education funded by the United States Department of Defense, intended to facilitate high-level training, education, and the development of national security strategy. It is chartered by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with Major General Gregg F. Martin as president. Located on the grounds of Fort Lesley McNair in Washington, D.C., The university's mission is to prepare military and civilian leaders from the United States and other countries to better address national and international security challenges through multidisciplinary educational programs, research, professional exchanges and outreach.

This is the first time in my life I have ever heard of high ranking US Military Officers and civilians assigned to write a uncritical essay (love letter) commemorating a dead allied leader. From a Biblical perspective, the King presided over Islam, the diabolical religion bent on the destruction of Christians and Jews. Is this any indication of where our nation of headed in the future? The philosopher Voltaire is thought to have made the following quote...

“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”- Voltaire

This famous quote could be written another Stalinesque way...

“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you must uncritically lavish with praise.”

Saudi Arabia is the custodian of the Islamic Religion and funds the growth of Islam world wide. The Bible refers to Saudi Arabia as Edom, ancestors of Esau and nation with an everlasting hatred of Israel in Southern Jordan and the Arabian Peninsula. The God of the Bible does not lavish praise on this country, rather the prophets speak of the horrible judgment coming to Saudia Arabia for their destruction of God's people world wide...

Obadiah 1:15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done , it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. 16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink , and they shall swallow down , and they shall be as though they had not been. 17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. 18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

Saudia Arabia and Souther Jordan will be one of 2 places on earth that will be perpetually uninhabitable because of God's judgment (Ezekiel 25, 35, Obadiah, Jeremiah 49). Jesus himself is coming to destroy Edom first (Isaiah 63), then the mount of Olives to save the Jews in their calamity...

Let me tell you ‘bout Ahab the Arab
The Sheik of the burning sand
He had emeralds and rubies just dripping off a him
And a ring on every finger of his hands

He wore a big ol’ turban wrapped around his head
And a scimitar by his side
And every evening about midnight
He’d jump on his camel named Clyde and ride

Silently through the night to the Sultan’s tent
Where he would secretly meet up with Fatima of the Seven Veils
Swingingest grade A number one U.S. choice dancer
In the Sultan’s whole harem

‘Cause heh, him and her had a thing going
You know and they’d been carrying on for some time now
Behind the Sultan’s back and you could hear him talk to his camel
As he rode out across the dunes
His voice would cut through the still night desert air

And he’d say
[Foreign Content]
Which is Arabic for, “Stop, Clyde!”
Clyde would say
[Foreign Content]
Which is camel for, “What the heck did he say anyway?”
Well

He brought that camel to a screeching halt
At the rear of Fatima’s tent, jumped off Clyde
Snuck around the corner and into the tent he went
There he saw Fatima laying on a Zebra skin rug
Wearing rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
And a bone in her nose ho, ho

There she was friends, lying there in all her radiant beauty
Eating on a raisin, grape, apricot, pomegranate
Bowl of chitterlings, two bananas, three Hershey bars
Sipping on a “R C” Co-Cola listening to her transistor
Watching the Grand Ole Opry on the tube
Reading the Mad magazine while she sung
“Does your chewing gum lose it’s flavor?”

And Ahab walked up to her and he said
[Foreign Content]
Which is Arabic for, “Let’s twist again like we did last summer, baby” You know what I mean! Whew!
She looked up at him from off the rug
Give him one of the sly looks
She said, “Crazy crazy crazy cray”
‘Round and around and around and around and around and around

And that’s the story ‘bout Ahab the Arab
The Sheik of the burnin’ sand
Ahab the Arab the swinging Sheik of the burnin’ sand

How low does this administration stoop?

It will be nothing more than an ass-kissing contest.

What will the prize be and will it be paid by the American taxpayer or our “friends” in the ME?

In the version of "Ahab the Arab" played on most Top 40 stations, the story ends in Fatima's tent. But there's more to the story in the extended version:
All of a sudden, the sultan walked in.
Ahab knew that this was the end.
Ahab and Fatima were caught by surprise.
The sultan had fire flashin’ out of his eyes.

So the sultan charged at Ahab,
Intending to make a dent
In his head, but he fled with Fatima,
And out of the tent they went.

They jumped on Clyde and started to ride
Cuttin’ out across the sand
With the sultan’s whole army in hot pursuit,
On and on they ran.

Well, to make a long story short,
They got away,
Because there was no animal alive
Who could keep up with Clyde
Once he got started.
‘Cause he was the swiftest steed
In the whole desert, babies.

Well, they made it across the border
Where Ahab hocked all of his rubies and emeralds,
And they bought themselves a swingin’ little split-level pad
And lived happily ever after.

Listen to it here.

The king was a lifetime supporter of his country’s alliance with the United States.

Author of this piece is flat-out in error, or lying his posterior off. In 1980, I was actually in "the Magic Kingdom" (for the entirety of said year). The King at that time was Khalid, and there were *two*, count them, two prospects for succeeding him.

One was Abdullah, and the other was Fahd. Of the two, the *UNANIMOUS* preference among the US/other Western nation personnel in the kingdom in those days was Fahd. The reason was, Fahd was considered to be supportive of alliances with the US/West. Abdullah, on the other hand was known to be apathetic, at a minimum, to same.

That, once he actually achieved the crown, he did not repudiate all alliances with non-Islamic nations remains a bit of a mystery to me knowing what I did of his sentiments. I can only say that perhaps he tempered his sentiments with a bit of pragmatism once he became king, or perhaps the first Gulf War opened his eyes somewhat. But to say he was a 'lifelong supporter' of any alliance with the West is arrant nonsense...
