Grocery stores in New York City and around the Northeast are being overrun and cleaned out as customers brace for a "potentially historic" snow storm set to bury the region.

Shoppers tweeted photos from checkout lines at stores throughout the Northeast using the hashtags #blizzardof2015 and #Snowmageddon2015:

We’ve had snow here ‘all day’...steady and accumulating. Plows have come by three times now. ....Rush hour about to start.

For Western Pa this is like a typical winter snowstorm...but another one is on the way not here yet. Just keeps coming down !!!!

The winds and temps are the danger if fools go out in this.

They said the winds can reach Sandy type winds and why the power etc will be affected by this storm.

I think it’s actually further down the coast that the shelf-striping happens. For example, I know for a fact it happens like clockwork in Charlotte, NC.

Reminds me of the first apartment I had....2nd floor..4 rooms , was a former Attorney’s office.

The Stove, shower and toilet were all in the same small room!!!

We've been snowing here all day...and more on the way.

Same here. This is a very wet and compact snow. Spent another hour and forty-five minutes behind the snow blower today. Will be at it tomorrow also. Just paying the rent for the summer views on the ridge.

It is very pretty out. That balances out (somewhat) all the grey weather we have been having. Some sun would be nice.
