The movie, though, made me think of Kipling's "Arithmetic on the Frontier". In it, a hundred years ago, commenting upon the British attempt to control Afghanistan, he noted that the Muslims could replace one of their fighters for a tiny fraction of what it cost the Brits to replace one of theirs. Something to think about.
When I was a student at the Armed Forces Staff College back in the 1960s I used that poem to illustrate the problem we then faced in Vietnam. We face it again in Afghanistan.
