The calendar years are still numbered based on the time of Christ, but we are forbidden to note that this is where this numbering system originated.

You aren't forbidden. But you do know that the whole world is not Christian, yes? And that no one knows exactly when Jesus was born?

Nor is the whole world literate, and nobody knows with precision when writing began.... so does that mean that we stop writing?

Societies that embrace Jesus Christ flourish. Societies that don’t, rarely flourish.

Like Israel?

Like Japan?

The point is that the calendar, a very important basic tool that the entire world uses (and was not forced to use), was based on the year that we think, to the best of our abilities, that Christ was born. Using Cognitive Dissonance (listed above, hint, hint) to ignore that fact, and avoid even mentioning His name, is a disservice to history and reality. I don’t believe in Buddha, but I will not change the names of cities and buildings bearing his name, just to make me feel more comfortable with the fact that I’m not Buddhist.

You DO understand the difference between generalizations and specific examples, don’t you?

No--not that that analogy makes much sense.

If you read widely, you will discover there is a lot of material out there from non-Christian sources that is NOT selling an anti-Christian, PC viewpoint...but they are NOT Christian, which does not make them evil.

So a Jewish scholar should use BC and AD because of this?

>Like Israel?

Israel flourishes because millions of Christians pump billions of dollars into that country.

>Like Japan?

Japan was written a new constitution by my father and millions of other pissed off Christians who kicked their ars and fixed their wagons.

I suspect that would be news to the Israelis, especially the ones who fought all the wars since 1948.

Japan was written a new constitution by my father and millions of other pissed off Christians who kicked their ars and fixed their wagons.

Japan was reduced to rubble at the end of WW2. Only the energy and intelligence of the Japanese brought them back from ruin to becoming a first world country, despite a lack of natural resources and despite being thousands of miles from overseas markets.

My father fought in the Pacific, too.

Yes I know the whole world isn’t Christian, and I also know that we don’t know exactly when Christ was born.

My point is that the numbering system of our years in our world’s secular calendar is based on the time of the birth of Christ, but that politically correct people are using CE and BCE to disguise this fact. I think it’s a valid point, even though the whole world isn’t Christian. I overstated it a bit to say we are forbidden from saying it. Just saying that they are trying not to use A.D. and B.C., terms which had been in use for centuries.

No disguising is involved.

If you do not believe Jesus was the Christ, BC annoys. If Jesus is not your lord, AD annoys.

Wait'll the Muslims demand conversion to their calendar in Europe. Perhaps the point will be made clear then.

Thanks for the more readable post.

After a long life, though, I am still bewildered as to why huge numbers of well educated and cultured people deliberately choose to place their lives and their minds on the wrong side of your 8 principles.

No doubt some of them really do want to “see the world burn.”

And no doubt the perpetual scarcity of great and inspirational Conservative leadership is an important factor.

But as to the rest of them, probably a majority of them, I do not understand what motivates their political decisions and their lifestyles.

Israel and Japan are two of the extremely few non Christian countries that aren’t crap-holes. But again, Israel is a country re-created by Christians. It is also a country that shares the Old Testament with Christians.

Japan is a nice place, I hear... though I also hear that it is racist to the core. Their constitution is largely drafted by Christians.

My assertion stands. The doctrine taught by Jesus of Nazareth is the finest the world has ever known, and peoples who adhere to it thrive more than those adhering to any other doctrine.

O, the Japanese are extremely racist. Back in the 1920s, the KKK controlled several states, including some northern ones, like Indiana. The racism of the Japanese is justification for expecting them to use BC and AD???

Your assertion is just that, an assertion. I don't make a habit of doing things just because someone tells me because of their beliefs I should do so. The world is full of crazies willing to assert all kinds of things, with considerable vehemence.

I believe in allowing manger scenes on government property where the locals want them, because that is cultural, as is the singing of Christmas carols in schools.

Imposition of practices not part of local culture simply because you are a true believer in Christianity as the only way to think...is breathtakingly arrogant, especially given that Christian Europe was a backward mess up until the last few hundred years and Christian Russia never did rise up from the squalor of the dark ages.

It’s getting hard for me to stay civil dealing with your forked tongue. Having a sense of stereoscopic smell isn’t worth it I would imagine.

When all else fails, get personal, right? Likening me to a snake? Lame.

Everything you say comes down to things should be the way you wish because that's what you are comfortable with. There are billions of people on earth, and we have to share it with people who are not Christians.

My reference was towards your last post, which was rife with purposeful misdirection. I liken you to a liar. And a forked tongue is a metaphor for a liar that has been around since... well, the Old Testament at least.

Call it something other than AD and BC... I don’t give a hoot what you call it. Just don’t expect people who love liberty more than life to swallow your junk, or even pay attention to it.

I DO love liberty. I don't tell people they have to do things my way because I have some special gift for knowing cosmic truth. You're the one agitated because you cannot impose your will on others--although, if you had the authority, you would make others do things your way. That ain't freedom.

You're giving Christians a bad name with your arrogance.
