Doctors house calls are considered a thing of the past, but not in the appointment book of Dr. Carrol Frazier Landrum, an 88-year-old physician from Edwards, Mississippi. The good doctor will see you no matter who you are, where you are, or how much money you have as long his 2007 Toyota Camry can deliver him to your location. But now his states medical board wants to see him gone.
Dr. Landrum, a WWII veteran, was forced to make a change after crime drove him from his Edwards, Mississippi, office two years ago, and he couldnt find another space suited to his practice. "I had my car, and I realized I could do most everything out of it that I needed to be doing," said Landrum, according to the Clarion-Ledger. The paper continued, and for many in [sic] the town of Edwards' 1,034 residents and others in the metro area, that car has become a lifeline it's the makeshift office of the 88-year-old Dr. Landrum, who is the only practicing physician in the town. advertisement
And many of the doctors trips take him beyond the town. The octogenarian in practice for 55 years sometimes drives 50 miles to meet people in their homes, in a parking lot, or by the roadside. Its a vital service in Mississippi, the nations poorest state, where rural transportation is limited and an emergency room visit can spell financial disaster.
What motivates Landrum to keep this rigorous schedule at an age when most men are long retired? The Washington Post reported on January 14:

Nanny State PING!
Thought Tme Lords were a lot older than 88. How old is Doctor Who?
God love this man.
“While he was deemed ‘incompetent’ at a recent board hearing, ‘He said the charge is a catchall,’ reports the Post, ‘one designed to avoid citing a specific occupational violation.’ He also made some good points in his own defense”
It would be interesting to know on what basis the board feels Landrum is incompetent. It’s possible there are other issues here, such as the doc’s skills are no longer up to snuff due to his age. IF that is the case, they ought to be able to provide specific examples and reasons.
If, however, the only beef they have is that the guy is now using his car as his office (instead of the building he fled because of crime issues), leave the poor guy alone! Performing basic diagnoses and writing scripts from your car isn’t really all that different than the mobile clinics you see servicing poor areas in some urban areas. It’s a little unorthodox, but as long as the guy isn’t doing outpatient surgery on the hood, I don’t see a problem here. (Again, so long as there are no legit issues with the doc’s competency).
The article is a powerful indictment of government seeking its own ends and rejecting its charter as servant to the people.
amen. and bless him too.
AMA scum.
hey if abortion clinics get waivers and don’t get inspected once every 11-14 years and have less sanitary conditions than his car, i think they can cut him some slack given the people he’s trying to genuinely assist.
big fedgov bully
That my FRiend is a very powerful and true statement.
First the left pretends that no medical infrastructure exists to treat indigent patients, then the left deliberately destroys that infrastructure, so that Obamacare can’t be repealed without causing actual harm to patients.
I think if I was 88 years old, I would just ignore them and ignore their orders.
This is what the world’s greatest medical marketplace has come to.
There was that demonstration the other year in Wisconsin (I think) where doctors were writing sick leave notices in the street for the protestors. Why was that not much of a problem?
Doesn’t pay to be nice and actually a God fearing citizen anymore...wanting to help and aid a fellow man...
THANKS TO ALL YOU FREAKS THAT VOTED OBAMA IN TWICE!

You're looking at this logically. The State looks at it as an affront to its power. Real power is the power to punish the innocent.
But there is no electronic medical record!
Then it is not medical care.
Guilty, practicing medicine without a computer.
