I didn't know about her. When "Caribou" was released I think he was still with Maxine. My guess is that it went the other way around. That is, Taupin's fascination with the American West and Old South made him more likely to be interested in women from the region.

For all his problems, Elton John recorded one of the great all time pro gun lyrics with "My Father's Gun". He undoes ALL of the good will with "Burn Down the Mission" (on the same album!) and "Ticking".
